bike access to almono site

Has bicycle access been restored to the Almono site yet?  For example, has the connection that existed a couple of years ago, from Hot Metal Bridge eastward through the site been restored?  Or perhaps the new bike route from 2nd avenue near where it crosses under the RR (bottom of Greenfield)? I ask today because there will be a big event there on Saturday https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hazelwood-big-tent-event-registration-37768648043?utm_campaign=reminder_attendees_48hour_email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=eb_email&utm_term=eventname They say there will be lots of bike racks, but their map only shows the east entrance from Hazelwood Ave (near Jozsa's Corner). It would be nice if we could enter from the downstream/Hot Metal Bridge side rather than going back and forth in the Irvine St traffic

Response from Almono folks: "We have received a number of inquiries about when the site’s new bicycle lanes will open. We realize the road/bike lanes look complete from the outside, and they almost are! BUT for about a 100 foot stretch that passes underneath a railroad bridge in the middle of the site. We are still in discussion with the railroad to complete this portion of the road/bike-way. We have a design in progress and are hoping to have the design approved and under construction by early next spring, so that we can provide a safer, vital alternative for cyclists to get to and from Hazelwood. As a development site that is actively promoting and encouraging non-vehichicular travel and a project team of cyclists and bicycle advocates, we’re just as eager as you to get the new bike lanes open! So bear with us, we’re home stretch."

That's great! It will really help access to Hazelwood from just about everywhere. Irvine St. is a pretty severe choke point when it comes to access to Hazelwood from Downtown, Oakland, Western Greenfield, The Southside, and many other places that should be connected. How will the connection with the Eliza Furnace trail work?

The current plan for connecting the Hazelwood Trail to the Eliza Furnace Trail is simply to restore the old (currently fenced off) crushed limestone path connecting to the intersection of Hot Metal Street & Second Ave. Passable, but not great, because of that traffic light. http://localhost/message-board/topic/encouraging-almono-to-think-big-on-active-transport/page/2/#post-344312 Here's a closeup map. Hazelwood Trail shown in yellow. The red line shows my suggestion for an alternate route. It would be car-free, and avoid the traffic light at Hot Metal St. A ramp would need to be built to replace the steps next to Thermo-Fisher building. https://flic.kr/p/ZfrYkE
