Perhaps BikePgh could undertake a safety campaign to educate both cyclists and walkers. I see so many out and about at night and daylight can be a problem as well, in dark clothing and no lights. Pedestrians walking with traffic.

I would add there is a need to motor vehicle education (or re-education) also. Although there is an education element of the new City bike plan, we are talking about a large scale undertaking to reach all corners of our society. I still occasionally run into people riding against traffic because that was what they were taught to do so many years ago.

Bike-Pgh may do great things for biking and walking across a street in the city, but once you get past the city line, you’re on your own.
Until and unless Harrisburg addresses these issues straight on, nothing will change. As long as Republicans control the legislature in even one chamber, nothing will change. PennDOT won’t change on its own, and is easily as likely to make matters worse as better.
Short of starting a protest worthy of getting arrested, I don’t have any great ideas here. We’ve been playing nice, according to the rules, for over a decade, and have jackshit to show for it beyond the city line.

What we need is a statewide campaign to get everyone to flood their state representative and state Senators' offices with calls for increasing pedestrian and bike safety.
