I have been splitting my time between Miami and Pittsburgh for many years. Biking can be a contact sport but biking here has improved considerably in the last 5 years. There are a few roads that can compare to Rt22 (Monroeville?). It is very flat here. I commute 5 miles daily from Miami Beach to the Arsht Center at 13th and Biscayne. Elevation gain 35'-0" . It is a very pleasant an safe ride across the Venetian Causeway. There are two drawbridges that provide the climb. Depending on where you choose to live here learning to ride a fixed gear will not be a death defying experience.
During the last year I have been participating in a Wednesday night ride called the FYXD305 Wednesday Night Ride. Now I am considering a fixie. Riding with this crew has been an [experience and has changed my urban riding style considerably.

Both of the bikes you are considering are nice. Maybe too nice for a commuter in Miami. Bikes disappear here.. FAST. If you have the luxury of having two bikes here I would consider a less expensive fixed gear to hone your skills and learn the landscape. There is always a nice selection of sub $400.00 fixed gear machines on Craig's list.
If I make next Wednesday's ride I will put you question to a couple of the riders and forward their comments.
