Bike-only bridges

https://vimeo.com/178344094   How many bridges exist in Pittsburgh that you can ride a bike over that you cannot drive a car over? I can only think of a couple: * Over Route 28 by Penn Brewery * From Ellsworth to Whole Foods (or whatever that is). How many actually exist? Separate count, how many separated bridge sidewalks are there like Ft Duquesne and Ft Pitt?

The McKeesport GAP bridge. And aren't there one or two on the Montour? Does Ft. Duq Bridge count as separated? The EFT bridge over Bates?

Ft Duquesne is separated; Ft. Pitt, kinda. Hot Metal bike/ped Bridge is an entirely different structure from the car bridge. Gerst Way over 279 is part of an official bike route

Bridges on trails form a third category, I think. I'm mainly interested in bridges you can bike over that you cannot drive over. On the other extreme, there exist walkways over streets you can only walk, not bike. * Over Forbes by Smithfield, connecting the Macys/Kaufmanns building to the parking garage. * Over Forbes in Oakland where Forbes bends. * Over Penn by the Convention Center * Over Penn by Stanwix, connecting Fifth Avenue Place to the old Hornes Building. So I am trying to think of ones like Gerst Way, and I'm thinking there are precious few of them.

There is also an elevated foot bridge over Stanwix, between a parking garage and that old department store building that is now a Highmark office building. Also, my bad. The Ft. Duquesne bridge sidewalk is not totally separated. The stretch in the middle is completely attached to the main bridge

Speaking of (path) footbridges, there's one from River Street (path) to Herrs Island / Washington's Landing too.

Corner of ellsworth and shady to spirit street. Spans over the busway and connects you to highland or penn ave behind the new development at the east liberty busway station area.

  • South Graham Street over East Busway
  • South 10th Street in South Side over RR tracks to Windom Street
  • Melancthon Street in Hazelwood over RR tracks (this is a cool one)
  • North Lang Avenue in Point Breeze/Homewood over East Busway
  • Two of them over Bigelow Boulevard between Herron Avenue and Bloomfield Bridge
  • Centre Avenue in downtown near Lower Hill to Chatham Center complex
  • Fallowfield Station footbridge in Beechview from Broadway Avenue to Alton Street (separate walkway on light-rail bridge!)
Many of these have steps, but are nevertheless quite bikable. And some bridges on/near trails...
  • Bridge over Waterfront Drive at The Waterfront in West Homestead to stores (connects to GAP)
  • Bridge over Nine Mile Run on Nine Mile Run Trail, near Summerset at Frick Park
  • The two bridges over the train tracks on the GAP at Whitaker and near Braddock
  • The Library Viaduct and Mcdonald Trestle on the Montour Trail, among others
  • The tufa bridges in Schenley Park
Here is a map of pedestrian bridges in the Pittsburgh area which I created. There are also several cool tunnels under roads and the like in and near the city; perhaps we can start another thread for those? :-)

Thank you. Having a visual is a great idea. The only improvement I'd make is to have a link for each to a photo, similar to how we do Tag-o-Rama. Some of these I've never been to, while others I might have seen once but cannot picture in my head.
