Bike Racks on Buses - not just Port Authority
Timito's recent comment on the availability of bike racks on the New Castle Transit Authority buses (in his post on the Cleveland to Pittsburgh routing thread) made me remember that there are lots of transit service providers in our area, and many of them have bike racks on their buses. Here's a list from a few years ago. If you plan to use them, it might be worth a call to update on rack availability, fares, schedules, etc.
Butler Transit Authority
Butler Transit Authority has bike racks on all seven of its buses.
IndiGO
Indiana County Transit Authority has installed bike racks on 19 of its 25 buses.
Mid Mon Valley Transit Authority
Mid Mon Valley has a bike rack installed on the Silver Line bus that serves California University of PA
New Castle Transit
New Castle Area Transportation Authority has bike racks installed on 30 of its 34 buses, including its commuter routes to and from Pittsburgh.
Town & Country Transit
Town and Country’s five fixed?route transit buses all have bike racks installed.
EMTA (Erie) busses have racks from April 15th to November 15th. Shockingly they don't have a route that takes you to Presque Isle but they will get you close and you can use your bike for the rest.
I'm amazed that Erie PA and Ottawa Ontario find the time to de- and re-mount seasonal racks, and we can't get PAT to take the racks off the buses they're scrapping.
Anyone in the NE corner of the county care to swing by the Harmar Garage and get a picture through the fence of the scrapyard?
I'm sure the rest of these regional lines and others nearby would love to take them off PAT's hands.
Where is Harmar garage? I can't picture it.
Just a bit downstream of where Old 28 / Freeport Road meets the PA Turnpike. StreetView
Alpha Drive is a public street, so you should be able to get a picture without trespassing.

EMTA is a tiny system but yeah, that's crazy that they won't even take the racks off the busses before they get scraped.
Harmar garage is behind the car dealership right next to mc donalds.
