This was in Seattle. WPXI neglected to mention that in their headline to attract more clicks

Someone really needs to talk to that biker about the efficacy of the U lock. (Sorry. This is tragic and foolish and I should not jest about it. But it is jerky that the WPXI headling did NOT read "Seattle biyclist stabs pedestrian.")

I checked their FB page as I try to ignore every local news station's FB page because they just attract the most stupid people from society to comment. WPXI actually did use this story in an attempt to attract the lowest common denominator of society to make comments about how bikes shouldn't be on the road, running over cyclists, and all this other stupid hillbilly bullshit one would expect from Pittsburghers. Just like I said in another thread, journalism is dead. It is nothing but a attempt to drum up controversy of intellectually disabled foaming at the mouth idiots for clicks. My biggest concern is is there really this many people who hate cyclists that post on these FB comment sections? That is disturbing. Most are about taking the lane and how dare we take a lane for our safety. It pisses me off that the public isn't educated over this, and our news sources just drum up ignorance and violence over this. When I have a guy attempting to run me over in McKees Rocks and getting out trying to fight me for simply riding in the middle of the lane in a tight 25MPH street I blame this shit on how our media portrays this subject.

Yes, I was going to say it was just another thing to sway people towards hatred, but you said it right!

You say journalism but you talk about local TV news. This seems unfair to actual journalists. There are still a few of those left, but not on TV.

To be more specific, it is not the journalists, but more so, the MEDIA! They make a frenzy out of nothing, and the stuff that really means something, you don't see from them. Now, as far as local news, they all are crap. Take them with a grain of salt. Most of the local stations repeat the same damn thing, all day, all week. I am a firm believer that no news, is good news.

Yes, there are still good journalist out there. That is true. I miss spoke. I wanted to go into journalism trying to be some type of Hunter S. Thompson but didn't have any English skills so had to rely on my math skills instead. But Lookout is right, the local media wants to just make a frenzy and controversy instead of properly informing and educating the public. This also holds true of most national media outlets. Anybody 35 and under anymore does not get any news from TV. We get it all from the internet. These local news stations will be even more desperate for attention in 15 years when all their audience starts sadly passing away.

In the 70's and before news was a public service mandated by our government. Now media has found a way to make money on news. They get a hyped up story from somewhere and make it out to be local, to get you to turn in. News these days really is for entertainment purposes and not to be taken seriously. Just one big joke.

...which is why non-commercial National Public Radio has the most reliable actual news being broadcast.

Stu you are probably correct, BUT it isn't as good as it used to be. Years ago it was less bias, not it is combating an opposing view, so it is tainted. I think they feel like they want to balance out fox noise. I don't feel there is a no bias new channel anymore. Even BBC isn't what it was.
