btw, the markers look like this:
BikeFest Photo Contest aug 12-21
Hey all- we teamed up with onlyinpgh.com and put together a photo contest for bikefest. just a little incentive to ride your bike around this week and go to events. plus there's some great prizes. yes!
Anyway, it's real simple.
During Bikefest (August 12 – 21), markers (an example to the right, click on the image to enlarge) will be placed around the city on bike trails, in bike shops and at places where Bikefest events are meeting indicating that the location is a “Bikin’ in the Burgh” Photo Spot. When you see one:
1. Take a picture of your bike at the location with the marker visible in the picture.
2. Submit it for the contest to earn a point by either scanning the QR code on the marker with your smartphone or by going to http://onylinpgh.com/bikefest2011.
3. Find another Photo Spot! The more pictures you send the more points you earn, and the more points you have the more likely it is you’ll win a prize!
And what are the prizes, you ask? Well, there are a slew of them this time around, including:
$100 gift card to Piper’s Pub
$50 giftcard to OTB Bicycle Cafe
Smartwool Knee warmer from QBP
Surly Flask from QBP
T-shirts and more!
The winners will be drawn live at the Closeout Party & Bike Film Viewing at OTB Bicycle Café (2518 East Carson St) from 4:00 – 9:30 pm on Sunday, August 21st. You won’t need to be present to win, but raffle tickets will be sold during the event to enter into the contest or improve your chances of winning if you’ve already entered. There will also be some specific prizes drawn exclusively for event attendees. All raffle ticket proceeds will go to BikePGH.

Points to BPGH and QBP for thinking of our one-legged brothers and sisters when including the Smartwool Knee Warmer.

And points to the sheep that gave their life so somebody could have a warm knee
well /I/ think it's an awesome contest, and look forward to seeing people's pics.
For me, it unfortunately does not take advantage of my best photography talent, photodocumenting the camera strap and my digits via blurry close up at a variety of once-in-a-lifetime locations and events.

Thank you, Dan, for the funniest thing I've read in days.
as someone who works on a sheep farm regularly i can say that sheep aren't really into getting their haircut and its a pretty rough process, also that they are more comfortable after its done and it makes lambing easier for them. we had one sheep that got a nasty infection from sheering last year and I imagine on bigger operations its probably a more common problem... however I don't really know how they do sheering on larger farms.
anyhow, back on topic...
i think this is a great promotion/contest... smart guys dahn there at bike pgh
yeah, ride your bike, take pics of stuff.

Yep--all links are working and the first submission has already been sent in! It'll appear on the site later this afternoon
Looking forward to seeing all the shots!
onylinpgh.com doesn't exist
onlyinpgh.com does
http://onylinpgh.com/bikefest2011
http://onlyinpgh.com/bikefest2011
Nice catch! You can hit either of the following links to get to the photo submission form:
http://onlyinpgh.com/bike2011
http://onlyinpgh.com/bifefest2011
what's a "bife"?
[added:]
Sorry, I was just worried that this was referring to one of those consequences of legalizing gay marriage that Rick "please don't google me" Santorum was trying to warn us about. You know, "man-on-bife" or something like that (to which I say "yuck").
That second one should say http://onlyinpgh.com/bikefest2011
and at the moment, on my PC, it is not resolving into anything.
Wow, I'm having typo problems this weekend!
Both of these should work:
http://onlyinpgh.com/bike2011
http://onlyinpgh.com/bikefest2011
Both should redirect you to the longer URL where the actual submission form is, which is:
http://onlyinpgh.com/bikin-in-the-burgh-submission-form/
If anyone has any problems with the form, feel free to send them to me directly at submit@onlyinpgh.com!
thank you messageboard type editors.
Looks like we'll be getting even more prizes for this too! I'll post as the details come up.
Dang it!!! I was at 3 of these yesterday. I should read the damn things. I thought they were ads with the QR code and all. FML.
Just wanted to let everyone know that we're in the process of doing some major system upgrades and photo submissions will be down for a few hours. Check back later tonight!
And we're up! You can see all the BikeFest submissions by going to our photo page:
All the BikeFest events are also on our homepage--look for the red bicycles
Is there still a delay on the uploading of photos to the website?
I've uploaded 2 and don't see them anywhere
Yep--I'm spacing the postings out so people have a chance to be the most recent one for a while, but we have a SIGNIFICANT queue right now, so I'm going to start putting a new one up every half-hour to an hour.
Keep them coming, though!
Anyone goint to OTB for this?
