In TRAFFIC REGULATIONS AND LAWS OF THE ROAD.
(b) No person shall operate a bicycle unless it is equipped with a bell or other device capable of giving a signal audible for a distance of at least one hundred feet, except that a bicycle shall not be equipped with nor shall any person use upon a bicycle any siren or whistle.
What's wrong with a whistle? Is my voice sufficient? "beep beep"? Considering this seems to apply to road riding, something more than a bell is needed if a car is to hear the bicyclist...a foghorn...but that' may not be allowed as it may be considered a siren. Looking deeper, this applies to trails as well; so it seems that on roads, bikes are to be seen, but not heard...at least, let's hope they ar eseen...
