Did a bunch of riding in NYC this past weekend. It was my first time there with the perspective of a regular cyclist; I was amazed at the enormity of their cycling infrastructure (lanes, etc). But it definitely made me appreciate the smaller community we have here; rolling up to an intersection with another cyclist here usually elicits at least a hello out of recognition of some common interest; there, according to a friend who one day decided to greet every single cyclist, elicits at best confusion and at worst a curt "fuck you!" I encountered a LOT of salmon...
