wow, you're my hero.
well here goes. hope this amazingly awkward photo gets people to post theirs
this is me going to the prom in '95
ugh.
In the spirit of the "Long Overdue Introductions" thread, I thought it might be fun to humiliate ourselves with old photos. Got any good ones to share?
I'll start:
(Me on the left, back in the RenFaire/SCA/D&D days; 1999?)
wow, you're my hero.
this is me going to the prom in '95
ugh.
the first one i could think of, from an old pg story when one of our esteemed city council people almost hit a messenger while talking on her phone. her reaction was to try to pass laws to make us wear safety vests and have 6 ft flags on our bikes. i'm on the left. i believe i had recently given myself a porn star mustache. now you can all see why i never shave.
The Story
Ok I'll bite. Here is a photo of my friend Marianne and I celebrating my birthday (a few days early) somewhere in France in 2005. I'm not sure why I dressed like an old man back then. Or why I had that insane hair.
i know there's more out there. if no one else posts, then i'm gonna feel like a fool for posting mine
If somebody gives me a 'target year' or era, I'll post something.... but honestly, don't think I can beat reddan's pic!
First License
First Chaka
Someone recently sent me a pretty good one from when I was young, dumb, and skinny (hey - at least I've still got one of those going for me!) but I can't find it any more.
I did find another one from the same era but unfortunately I believe the image contains too many illicit substances to be posted in a "family-friendly" forum.
i know there's more out there. if no one else posts, then i'm gonna feel like a fool for posting mine
I'm working on it. Fortunately, I've always made it a policy to avoid cameras. I should be able to wrangle up something from the early climbing years that may have me looking like this (and I don't mean the old French guys on the right).
Im gong the same thing, after all the moves, not a lot of picture have survived from when I was young (and those that did were from way before digital cameras)
@bikeygirl: I think "target era" is best phrased as "that time you truly wish wasn't captured on film".
If I absolutely have to, I'll bust out the early 90's high school RenFaire outfit pix, complete with sheer black tights...but that may mandate eye bleach.

Wow, Motley Crue + cello. Sweet.
are we allowed to post pics from other posters?
As long as you're willing to bear the brunt of their wrath, I think it's cool...
circa 1988, during my doorway troll phase:
apparently i liked grey.
I don't own a scanner and am way too old for there to be digital photos of my youth...Too bad though, the powder blue suit and the 4 inch sideburns in my high school senior picture (class of '80) would fit the bill.
I own a scanner, and will be deee-lighted to help ya out.
Doorway troll is sweet! you a toll collector, by chance?
I'll have to digitize a photo of me with my michael jackson action figure...
Dan, going away to spend a week riding in southern Indiana, but when I get back I'll dig it out.
1982 - If you know ANYTHING about pole vaulting- this is not how it is done, but at least I could make opening height. Plus I love the socks.
This thread is awesome. I don't have any old pictures on my computer, but I'll scan some tonight.
Mark is that Pittsburgh? Greenfield?
South Side stadium for a city meet. Look at the crowds, awsome...
Found one! This is me on a family vacation in front of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1998 or 1999. I cropped out my family out of kindness to them:
Here is a more recent embarrassing picture:
I think it is kind of screwed up that the MS 150
segregated all tandems, recumbents and tall bikes
to their own group.
?
I think he was talking about your photo, tall-bike, Rick's tandem in the background. Like a circus parade!
I think I've got you guys beat:
Junior year, 2006:
Big suit, long hair
Reddan, you should jump into 4th Edition. They're just about to bring back Dark Sun too
Dark Sun? I'm holding out for Spelljammer.
This thread is awesome.
Here's me and my first car:
And my first 5k:
(I'm on the right)
That is an unflattering shot of me in the background of Nick's photo. And Rick may be my "Captain" but that's MY tandem!
Here is my photo..not so embarrassing, but maybe entertaining:
I don't know , Jane... I think that is pretty embarrassing.
I think this thread just became NSFW.
I am pretty sure anyone with that picture in their cache is going to jail.
Party on, Dave. You know, because you're wearing party socks.
i feel so dirty now 8-]
Around 1982 or so. Oddly enough, my shirts still look the same when I ride home on a hot day, only it isn't drool.
I have way more embarrassing photos, but they're all stuck in my parents basement. When I was around 7, my parents allowed me to pick out my own eyeglasses. I had these giant, red, "sally jessy raphael" type glasses. I wish I had that photo handy.
ooops! I'll bail you all out of jail.
I already put an old photo in the introductions, so maybe one of me now would actually be more embarrasing. I'll have to work on this.
Darn, I set out two photos last night and forgot to bring 'em. (Home scanner broke.)
in my grandparents' bathroom.
i need to get my mother-in-law to send me a certain pic of cburch when he was young.. it involves a paper bag over the head..... but most def NSFW
double post
Zappa fan?
I'm on the right. And I haven't changed all that much.
i think we're supposed to post awkward pictures, not cute pictures. i want to take mine back
Reddan, you should jump into 4th Edition. They're just about to bring back Dark Sun too
i have too much of the 2nd edition books memorized to play anything later.
Ok... here's one of the few available pics I have at the moment....
Little baby-freak-me!! I was born premature by 9 weeks and weighted only 4lbs. Doctors thought I wasn't going to make it and after a week in an incubator, they gave me to my parents so I could die... for real! But... well, here I am!!
Seriously... I look like larva! Like an awake larva, BUT larva!
I like to joke that the only reason why I have my eyes open, is because I was already "yo' this is my first photo shoot! Make it good!" haha!
OMG SHE HAS NO LIMBS.
Yeah... I'm a floating head only!
EDIT: While I was average baby-height, as little when they bundle-me up, my mom said that I fit on a shoebox...
@bikeygirl: sweet faux-hawk!
I found another:
Me in 7th or 8th grade.
Together, these photos make a bicycle.
The b&w one was at SUNY Geneseo, age 20.
The color one was my wedding day, 8/4/84. The blushing bride is in the background on the right.
Look at that suit.
Stu, you are like a hipster god in that photo.
bikeygirl
Is that a Sleestak?
@Noah Hahahaha! Sleestak? I had to google it! Yeah! I guess sort off? LOL
had to google sleestak... these young kids need to get out of my yard....
Middle School Honors Band.
@stu, ohemgee. those are the greatest photos ever.
