Boston Trail Head over night parking on the GAP?

I've heard mentioned before that you can park overnight at the boston trail head but I can't find any official information about over night parking at that trail head.

We're going to do a short over nighter from boston to rivers edge campground in a few weeks and I'd like to leave my car in boston.

Any info on where or how I can do that would be greatly appreciated.

NAATYQB - Not An Answer To Your Question But - in the same situation, I've left cars overnight in the police parking lot in McKeesport. They're good with it, they just want you to park in the middle-to-lower end of the lot (so they can park closer in and don't have to walk so far). There's ambiguity as to whether the police lot in McKeesport is any better than the trailhead in Boston. Cheers V.

While also not an answer, the parking lot at Second Avenue near the Jail always has cars parked in it with guards coming and going at all hours so parking there would be pretty safe and leaving it there for a few days probably won't be noticed. Also, if you pull into the lot late in the afternoon there is no one in the booth to charge you to park.

That having been said, it's not an official overnight trail parking lot.

To the question, I have parked overnight at Boston several times without issue. Can't say I felt very comfortable about it, though. Would probably feel less comfortable parking there for longer than overnight.

Thanks for the replys guys! It's only going to be one night. I might take a chance at the boston trail head too.

I have parked overnight for a few days at Connellsville with no issues. I did a courtesy visit to the police department ahead of time to let them know my plans which they seemed to really appreciate.

I am sure it will be fine. As Marko suggested a stop by the police station may be appreciated.

yup, I had planned to do just that. And after a little research I discovered that the boston trail head is the jurisdiction of the Elizabeth Township police department. In case anyone is reading this and wants to do the same thing some day.

I assume you know that you can park overnight at the Waterfront and hit the trail from there too? I know you're familiar with the area, so I assume so. A lot of out-of-towners still don't realize the section from Homestead-McKeesport is done and they dont' have to start in McKees/Boston anymore. Have a good ride!

I do know that, but this is my wifes first over night ride and her first ride over 30 miles, estimated 35 miles from boston. I wouldn't feel comfortable adding another 10 miles to her day so we have no choice but to start in boston.

Makes sense Rambo. Hope she enjoys the ride!
