Places I've been where I had to improvise a tie-up:
* Craig St near Forbes (that area needs a corral)
* Butler near 54th (a precious single one exists, need more)
* At Allegheny General Hospital
* Near the post office on California Ave (though I haven't checked recently)
* Along E Ohio St business district on North Side
* Is the situation at Stage AE any better than it was in 2012?
* On private property, the rack in the rear of the Human Svcs Bldg at 1 Smithfield is substandard
* Goodwill's 51st Street store I don't think has one (last time I was there, I drove)
That's me, mentally riding all over the city, to places I've been mainly in the past year. In general, I would take a good hard look at:
* post offices
* libraries
* coffee shops
* restaurants

A +1 on Allegheny General. I put in a request this morning for some racks on North Ave, in front of the main entrance. The hospital garages have racks, but not only are they inconveniently located, they are also toaster racks. Would help if others requested them, too

Post Office on Bouquet in Central Oakland, for sure.

My understanding is that the sidewalk on South Craig is unusable for racks. For some reason, they can't be put in the brick, and the concrete sections aren't big enough.
There are racks around the corners both at Forbes and Fillmore, but they're clearly not enough. A corral is probably the only hope there...

This house (183 Morewood Ave) has a front-yard, covered bike rack!

That's a beautiful thing. I'd thought about doing something similar, before realizing that it was somewhat less insane than I'd supposed for me and the girls to peddle up our steep driveway.

When I went to an Allegheny Solar meeting I discussed the possibility of putting panels in my south facing front yard. I was told zoning would not allow this, but If I constructed a roofed shelter I could put panels on that. My immediate thought was bike storage!

In what forum should we take the city to task about disallowing putting solar panels on the roof?

In helen's situation, it's probably a case of having secondary structures in the front yard, rather than just having solar panels in general. AFIK, that's okay. The International Union of Operating Engineers building in Greenfield's The Run has solar panels on top of it

From my understanding, I was told I could not put a solar panel array in the yard, but if I were to build an approved structure (shed, car port, or in my mind, a bike parking garage) I could then put panels on the roof.

Went to troy hill on saturday, couldn't find anywhere to lock to on Lowrie Street. No bike racks to be found. Found a stop sign a block off Lowrie @ Hatterass st that was okay to lock to. Though, It was kind of in an annoying spot for pedestrians.
Most stop signs are just attached to telephone poles, and there are few other accessory signs, so there were very few spots to lock.
I Sent request via form above.
