IDK if you have the Rollers or the Bike-Packers, but I know the Bike-Packers have that cloth pocket thingy and that it is only attached at the top, so you could pull it out most of the way and hand wash it in the sink somehow.
Cleaning panniers?
So, while riding to work this morning a water bottle inside one of my panniers burst open soaking everything inside. Unfortunately for me, one of the things that got soaked was a loose Nuun tablet that was apparently rattling around in there. So now the inside of my panniers smells like ass.
The panniers are Ortlieb classics, so I can scrub down the inner surface with soap and water and let it dry, but there's also a cloth pouch inside that seems to be retaining most of the smell.
Anyone have any helpful advice for getting rid of the stench of death?
Totally sorry for your problem, but I've got to ask: how come Nuun tablets smell like azz/death?
@Pearmask, I have the rollers. Looking at the pack more closely the cloth pocket is held in place by the same assembly that holds the roller in - I could unscrew that with Phillips-head, detach the cloth pocket and throw it in the laundry.
@Vannevar: Because they smell the way they taste.
All joking aside, I have no idea why. They've got this off-putting chemical/multivitamin smell/taste that overwhelms any of the flavoring agents they're using. It reminds me of opening a box full of old slightly mildewy books. I suspect there's a Gatorade effect where it smells/tastes delicious when you're seriously dehydrated but not so much at other times.
The Tri-Berry ones are the only ones I've tried that were remotely tolerable. I like them okay. Tropical is disgusting, and some "All-Day Hydration" ones I bought recently created one of the very worst-tasting liquids I've ever encountered. (If anybody is looking for some free chemical/ass-flavored Nuun tablets with only one out of the package used, I can hook you up. Bleh.)
Let me add to pearmasks's offer. I have some grapefruit-orange and tangerine-lime "all-day hydration" Nuuns that I'm never gonna touch again, free to a good home.
Glad I'm not the only one who fell victim to Tangerine-Lime
ETA: I haven't had a full-blown heat/dehydration migraine in a while, even on some long rides recently where I was SURE it was going to happen, so I do have to say a word of thanks to Tri-Berry Nuun. My body likes it better than plain water, whether or not my tongue does. And it is a lot easier to carry around those tabs than to carry or buy that many bottles of Gatorade or whatever
I'm a fan of the Camelbak Elixir tabs in lemon-lime (the caffeinated orange is okay too, but the lemon-lime manages to be fairly refreshing without tasting like you're drinking diluted citrus cleaner.)
Mr. Destructicity - Fabreeze solves all stink issues and typically will refresh any situation. Hand wash as best you can and then spray down the whole inside with Fabreeze.
