Coffeeneuring 2016 - starts 10/7

This year's official rules have not been posted yet, but the announcement has been made here. MG is taken comments on possible rule changes. Locally...a couple things. 1) Due to having a really great time at last year's kickoff event, Emma and I were talking about how we should do it again. That first saturday (10/7) in the morning, ideally as a "coffee shop without walls" somewhere along one of the rivers, but if the weather isn't shitty again, I'm sure Think would be happy to host us again. 2) MG interviewed Emma and I a few months back about our Coffeeneuring experiences, the results of which hopefully will still see the light of day, though they haven't been posted yet. MG asked us what we thought was the future of Coffeeneuring in Pgh and I said how I thought it would be cool if we had our own uniquely Pgh-based Coffeeneuring challenge. I offered this as a possible challenge - 7 Coffeeneuring trips, one of each from the following 7 regions of Pgh: downtown, northside, southside, west end, east end, north hills, south hills. Other possibilities?

Same idea, but more specifically: 1) South Side Flats, from Station Square to Hot Metal 2) South of Mt Washington, including suburbs 3) Flat part of North Side 4) North, but up a hill, including suburbs 5) Between the rivers but in the city 6) Between the rivers but beyond the Blue Belt or city line 7) West End, western part of the city, western suburbs Something like that. I don't know how to categorize outer areas on diagonals like Sewickley, McKeesport, Cheswick.

^per that, there is a new community based coffee shop in McKees Rocks called Renewal Coffee, it's in the Father Ryan Arts Center, which is a really cool facility. I can't vouch for their product yet, but I hope to check it out at some point. I'm just always pulling for small successes in the west.

I tweaked my list to include the diagonals as a variant of outer-East.

The Coffeeneuring Kickoff Crew gathered last night to discuss some logistics.  Due to several members doing the Fineview Steps Challenge, we are thinking we'll do the kickoff event on Sunday the 9th. We discussed doing a Friday happy hour event since it seems like Fridays might be in play for Coffeeneuring in this year's rules but just felt a morning coffee/tea/donuts event seemed more appropriate. We were considering doing something in Frick this year.  Possibly seeing if the Wheel Mill folks would be our inclement weather backup location.  Still figuring things out. Anyone else have any thoughts?

The 2016 Rules Are Posted! Here! This year, we'll do two events! Coffeeneuring Kickoff! Sunday, October 9, 10-11.30am, Frick Park Ride yer bike over to the little shelter at the intersection of Falls Ravine and Tranquil trails (these are both road bikeable) and meet us there. No agenda other than drinkin' tea and coffee. We'll bring some, but feel free to bring your camping setup and make coffee there too. Maybe bring some muffins to share, eh? Torley Manor Home Coffee Shop! Wednesday, October 26, 5.30-7pm The updates to this year's rules include a) eliminating the weekend requirement and b) allowing people to declare their home a coffee shop, so folks can come over and coffeneur at their home! So come over and we'll make you tea or coffee and there might even be pie. 4625 Torley Street in Bloomfield! We'll set up bike parking in the back yard.

Looking forward to a better coffeeneuring season this year, after last year's miserable failure. The elimination of the weekend requirement should help. By the way, note that, sadly, Brew on Broadway is closed until at least May 2017, as apparently their building will be remodeled, forcing them to shut down.

Sneak early peak at Coffeeneuring-By-City results for 2016. Major kudos to all participating. I think: special triple-hyper accolades to @Emma and @hardTravelin for the kickoff event at Frick and also for opening their home as a coffee shop. They win the Pgh Spirit of Coffeeneuring Award.

Just seeing these #'s for the first time.  Good work Pittsburgh!!  Our #'s keep growing every year. DC --> what happened? Glad to be part of this again this year.  The kickoff event and the home coffee shop were great chances to hang out with some wonderful people.  Thanks to those who took part in either of those events.

How does scoring work?  Is it the number of people who complete all 7 in 7 weeks?

Yes. A simple count of the number of people who completed the challenge. It's fun to read everyone's accounts of where they went, what they did, who they went with, and experiences along the way. There are several above, including mine.
