yeah, the crash part has been broken for a minute. we plan on having that up and running again for the 2010 release of the map
thanks for the design input. i'll forward it along
Looking at the Bike-Pgh crash map, I don't see any crashes listed in over a year. Is the map broken, or are people just not getting into wrecks? Maybe both. In particular, I don't see the August fatality on Louisa Street.
I think it would be useful to have an updated sense of where the danger zones are--maybe a filter by date option--to see if anything being done by the city (lane stripings, sharrows, etc.) is making a difference.
Also, I think the info bubbles on the map are a bit too small (requiring a new page load to get the details) and access to the map is hard to find: it's on a tab bundled with the browsable online version of the regular bike map. What about a direct link on the "In a crash?" or safety pages?
Not to necessarily criticize the staff here--maybe (hopefully) there are just fewer crashes to report, of which fewer are getting translated onto the map.

I've been playing with the Google Maps API a bit lately if you need any help hacking on it.
