Cyclist struck at Stanton and Highland

A coworker told me this morning that, while waiting for the school bus, a young man coming down Highland towards E. Liberty was cut off by a school van turning left from Highland onto Stanton. It sounded like the cyclist was travelling at a good clip and the van turned into his path, sending the cyclist onto the hood of the van. The young man was badly hurt and taken to the hospital by ambulance. Does anyone have any additional details?

My coworker heard through their councilperson's office that the victim should be ok. So at the very least, it sounds like it wasn't life-threatening.

Reporting live from the hospital I'm in a lot of pain still. Thanks for the writeup. My front wheel/fork snapped off and my helmet spilt in two.

Yeah, glad you are not hurt more seriously. Make sure you sit down tonight and write up (NOT on the internet) exactly what happened with as much detail as you can remember. This way you will be prepared if you need to get lawyers involved in the future. Sometimes insurance companies treat us cyclists with the same degree of negligence as their drivers do, and police reports can get things wrong. It's amazing how details become fuzzy over time. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Exactly what I was going to say. It shattered and disbursed the energy so your skull and brain got less of a shock.

The fact that you're able to respond on this forum makes us all sigh in relief. So happy that you had a helmet on and that it did the job as advertised. I hope the injuries aren't serious and that you heal completely and quickly.
