dc bicycle resources?

I could have sworn someone posted a thread like this a while ago, but since I couldn't find one...here goes:

I'm going to be working in DC this summer (and living too, hopefully. :) ) and was wondering if anyone had some tips on good places to bike around there. I've managed to find what appears to be their big bicycle group, but still thought I'd see if anyone has lived in around there and had some biking tips. I'm still primarily a recreational rider and wouldn't be commuting, esp. if I end up living in VA.

Thanks!

Do you know what area you'll be living in?

The commuting scene is amazing down there. I take it they have a lot of paths and tons of high powered people commute.

Not sure yet, but I'm looking at the Foggy Bottom area, also Eastern Market (maybe), as well as Rosslyn and Clarendon in VA. So far, Rosslyn's looking like it might be the best option.

Ahh, bummer. I've got a lot of clients and friends down there but I don't think in those areas.

Good luck! Seems like a fabulous riding scene down there.

You might want to get in touch with someone from the DC Randonneurs, as they've got members from all over the DC, MD, and VA area. If you wish, PM me and I'll perform some e-intros...

There are lots of great places to bike in the DC area. There are also a lot of places where I would not want to ride a bike. But, since you don't plan to bicycle commute, you'll find lots of great riding. My absolute favorite place to ride in DC is Rock Creek Parkway, I usually get on somewhere around the zoo, in Wash NW (Cleveland Park-near Connecticut Ave) and ride down around the Watergate Hotel and into the Mall area.

Rock Creek Parkway is a long linear park, with off road (paved trail) access.
