Dirty Dozen Training 2015: Anyone? Anyone? (Bueller? Bueller?)

First week of October I think? Calling Jim! Calling Steph! Guys--do you have a confirmation of the first training ride date and time? And same location as always (downtown by Golden Triangle Bike Rental)? I'm getting anxious to get back out there and suffer! lol LP

The Sunday rides will probably be impossible for me to make this year, but I'm probably up for a painful commute home once a week if it starts early enough via some combination Sycamore, Welsh way (never been), Barry Holt Eleanor (Eleanor kicked my ass last time, I have to get back there), and Flowers Kilborne Tesla. I don't think I'll have time and legs for all though and certainly not for Beechview. Honestly I'm reaching a bit as is as most of the time I'm downtown with the tandem and the other option at the moment is a mountain bike with a front shock that may actually be less efficient than the tandem. Just Sycamore on a lunch hour is definitely a possibility, too.

If anybody's planning on doing any training rides on Saturday, please let me know or post here. I can't make Sunday training for this.

I believe the training/scouting schedule has historically looked something like: Week 1 (03 Oct): First quarter (Center, Ravine, Berryhill, High) Week 2 (10 Oct): Second quarter (Logan, Rialto, Suffolk) Week 3 (17 Oct): First half Week 4 (24 Oct): Third quarter (Sycamore, Canton, Boustead) Week 5 (31 Oct): Fourth quarter (Welsh, Eleanor, Tesla) Week 6 (07 Nov): Second half Week 7 (14 Nov): Complete ride Week 8 (21 Nov): rest Week 9 (28 Nov): DD In general people have ridden on after the quarters and halves to do a few more hills as they wish, and I may well be wrong about some of the details. Stef? Jim? I'm sure there are enough people training that Sat and Sun rides could be arranged. I would also be interested in some sort of "Dirty Dozen skills training". For example, I am notoriously bad at unclipping at 30%... Not that I ever WANT to but the need arises on occasion. Immediately after that comes "falling at 30%" (hold onto the bars, DON'T put your hand out...). There is also the general "Riding in a large group going 4 mph, several of whom are actively practicing skills a or b immediately up ahead..." along with bits of wisdom like one from Stef that was something like "if you hear someone shifting under load immediately in front of you, prepare for that person to practice skills a or b..." Oh, yes, and then there is "Riding up 30% on ice" but if last year is any indication an opportunity to practice that will appear sometime during the scouting schedule (hint, smooth pedaling is a really good idea, as is keeping the gravity vector pointing straight down through your bike frame)...

Any more interest in Sunday morning training/scouting rides? I would be interested. What time folks usually get started in the morning? 8ish or 9ish?

Hey there! The first DD training ride is SUN OCT 4th at 8A. Steph should be confirming the exact location soon. Steph? Jim? Guys?

8am. Jail trail trailhead on the UPMC side, not downtown side. There is a port-o-potty there, whereas the bathrooms by the golden triangle bike rental aren't open. So not the golden triangle bike rental side, like it was in the past. Please note that the last ride on Nov 15, the one where we do the whole route, will start at the oval. Not sure if those bathrooms will be open, but the woods will be right there. Also considering doing the official route along Carson street, but I am inclined to hop the tracks and ride the trail for a little. Traffic is horrible and dangerous.

In the immortal words of Borat, "VERY NICE!" Where is the "UPMC side" of the jail trail? Do you mean across the river from Sportsworks, ie here? https://goo.gl/maps/375tUW6nc3N2

UPMC is everywhere, right? But she must mean the east end of the trail, next to the UPMC parking lot.

Hope to be there Sunday at 8. Last year the schedule was the first 4 quarters the first four weeks. Week 5 was the first half, week 6 the second half and week 7 the entire course. Thanks Steph and all for your assistance!

I guess I got the sequence slightly off. Anyway, it should be dry but a bit chilly tomorrow morning. Dress appropriately - you will get hot on the climbs, cold on the descents.

As witnessed this morning the remnant tar spill on Suffolk is slippery when wet!

Anybody else show up for this today? I was there from 7:55 to 8:05, didn't see anyone and left on my own.
