I can't see Facebook at work; probably some other folks can't either. It would be a good idea to post the descriptions of the stolen bikes on the Bikes Stolen thread & on the BikingPgh.com site.

Just came from Performance, the glass in one of the doors is shattered and they had bikes stolen, wtf is going on out there? This is unprecedented.

They were hit again last night, Penn Hills cops caught the scumbag riding along Verona Rd. riding one bike and holding another. The criminals seem to be targeting fat bikes/mtb's. I am definitely going to think twice about what bike I ride around the city on.

Glad they caught someone, but who knows if he is the one that did all these smash and grabs. I feel bad for Dirty Harry's dealing with this crap. I agree with Eric. From personal experience riding a fat bike around the city for over two years, it gets a lot of attention especially in sketchy higher crime areas. I may look into switching bikes due to this fascination. Interestingly, if I ride my more expensive fixed or road bike, no one notices at all and no comments are made.

I think people see mtbs/hybrids/fat bikes as easier to ride and sell perhaps. The ones with skinnier tires, drop bars, and brifters are less like the bikes people learned to ride on/ rode as kids. Just a guess.

My guess is resale cost is higher.
