Since you have them it's not like you're making a huge investment over mechanical. Go for it, I think you will like how easy your bike stops.
disc brake mech vs hydro... comments
i used to have avid mech disc brakes on the only mtb i ever owned... then it got stolen... i've been slowly moving towards getting another off road bike going and have gotten a couple pairs of hydraulic disc brakes through trades and friends and things... i seriously have something against them... i don't know what it is, i just don't trust it... so should i bite the bullet and just try them because i'll love them, or is there reason to be skeptical about them?
whats the maintenance/ease of setup difference. i was going to go with avid mech because that's what i'm used to, but a friend turned me on to these which are really cheap: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/BR505C00-Interloc+Dual+Banger+Mechanical+Disc.aspx?sc=FRGL
Hydros work very well. Almost no maintenance. Maybe every couple of years you bleed the brakes? I've had zero problems with them over several years. For awhile I ran the mechanicals on one bike and the hydros on the other. They stopped about the same.
I have only ever had rim brakes or hydraulic on a mountain bike so I don't know what the stopping power is like on mechanical. All I know is that I LOVE my disc brakes.
Oh, right, ease of setup. If you don't have to cut the lines it's incredibly ease. Just bolt them on and go. There basically is no maintenance except change the fluid every couple of years.
hmm... i just didn't know about the maintenance... maybe i'll give them a try.
if you do decide to go back to mechanical disc, GET THE AVIDS!!!! they are head and shoulders above any other mechanical disc brakes you will find. brakes are not something to go cheap on.
the craigslist gods said... mark... don't use those hydraulic disc brakes... and put up a pair of bb7s for 60 bucks so i did it ...
ohhh well... if anyone is in the market for hydraulics lemme know
