i crested 120 once on my way to NYC.
Distance poll
The pooll on maximum distance is fairly astonishing.
First, just because of how many people answered.
But also becasue of how far people go.
I was probably using a bike for my major transportation for 5 years without going over 30 miles in any one day. Although, when I was 12, I did a round trip that Google says is 31+ miles.
The most popular distance is 50-79 miles - a 30-mile interval when all the other intervals were 20 miles.
If the poll was ...50-69, 70-89 and 90-109, probably the 100 mile segment would be the most popular.
I guess once people get past 80 miles, they go for the century.
About 1/6 of the responders have gone farther than 120 miles - incredible!
89 people have gone farther than 80 miles (and 90 less that that) at this point. Wow!
Yeah, the ol' century is typical marker of "long distance" for most riders.
There's a fair number of randonneurs on the board, plus a few long distance tourist types, so I suspect they account for the 120+ distance (200k == 124-ish miles).
I've max'ed out at 130 miles, due to, uhh, getting lost during a 200k brevet and riding six extra miles.
i did 140 miles to erie in one day a few summers ago. easily the most difficult ride i've ever done. half of that (difficulty) was because i was alone the whole time, and i tend to be a pretty gregarious person.
My maximum daily number is around 115.
Wait until Dan, Steevo or the Commonwealth Crushing folks start chiming in...
My highest was about 30 (and I was very sore the next day), but my average is only about 10.
A few years ago during Crush the Commonwealth a friend and I rode from Philly to Rockwood only stopping to eat. Into a headwind, rained about 80% of the time. Right around 300 miles.
Quite a few 200 mile plus days other years.
Outside of CtC I've done a few 100+ mile days while touring, and a few 100 mile mtb races, but I've never ridden 100 miles for training.
my longest day was a 105 mile "century" that I rode to and back from 10 miles away.
My longest single-day ride (defining a day as "from waking to sleeping"...I did get a shower and a change of clothes after the first 400K) was a 600K in Eastern PA, so a nominal 375 miles. That was over the span of 32 hours, though.
My longest ride in less than 24 hours is roughly in the 250-mile range (AKA "a 400K brevet").
My longest day ws either follwing Swan's Potato Garden Run and getting lsot (and misdirected) or on my back from a WV trip, going 70 miles that included crossing the Potomac on a railroad bridge and going slightly over two miles back and forth through roadless cornfields.
I imagine a lot of the folks responding have done a charity ride at one time or another.
Ride the MS150 and you've put in 80 miles in a day, casually.
My longest single day ride was 96 miles (on GAP Trail). Longest road ride was 84 miles. Hoping to beat those.
West Falls to Geneseo was 50 miles, which I did once when I was 19 (1977). The most recent longest ride was in March, McCandless to Library, then Downtown to Highland Park, for about 48 miles. Same bike.
