Anyone up for a tour-de-breakfast?
Friday is Bike to Work Day
Hope to see you on the streets.
http://bike-pgh.org/blog/2012/05/15/celebrate-national-bike-to-work-day-this-friday-may-18th/
I will almost certainly be showing up at the portico at 8:30. Weather looks fab!
Too bad I work so early
I'm planning to uphold my yearly tradition of Bike-Instead-Of-Work-Day.
Man, that's nice if you can swing it.
Will there be Scott Bricker fan buttons in the swag bags?
Oh Bill, you're such a flirt.
There will not be any buttons with my visage, but if you feel so inclined, Becca owns a button maker and you could make your very own at the office some day. I will be sure to leave prior while my head can still fit through the door.
are volunteers needed at the stations this year? I was at whole foods last year and I'd be willing do it again.
I think we're good on volunteers, but you could check with Jane and Becca on that. I know we could still use a volunteer or two on Saturday at VO Fest. We're hosting a bike valet for the day.
I think I'm 90% in for the "Tour-De-Breakfast" Friday. As long as we can hit the Downtown/Portico stop at 8:30am for the Mayor's spill, don't care much about what order to do.
i will be biking the single block to my job, running in and saying 'nya nya nya, i get to ride my bike all day! have fun indoors, suckers!' and then riding about aimlessly smiling at other people on bikes.
just like most days, but with hydration stations!
The tour-de-breakfast sound great, are you meeting in town or east end to start?
I plan on riding in from McKeesport @ 7:00 AM or so to Oakland. Feel free to catch up with me in the Waterfront.
from the hydration station thread, dan1981 shared this map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=209676853820960156323.0004bdfa810cf795187e1&msa=0
any traveling salespersons want to compute the shortest route through all the stations??!
I will be at the one on the north side but not for too long. I start work a little early that day, but not as early as Monday ad Wednesdays. Hope to see some of you.
I'll be riding past the BPGH station at about 5:30, maybe I'll see some people setting up! Haha.`
I typically tie my bike up at the City-County Building anyway. How handy!
How about we start out at Doughboy square leaving from there at 7:30am (so get here at 7:20), then Baum auto, CMU, REI, Triangle rental and city county portico. I think if we try to hit them all we will run out of time, & I want to be there to show support at the political dog and pony.
Sounds good
FWIW, I'm planning PNC Park, Doughboy, Friendship Park, Baum Auto, CMU, REI.
If you want to try and hit them all I suggest this route:
PNC Park
Penn Brewery
Doubhboy
Friendship Park
Baum Auto
Whole Foods
Chatham Eastside
East End Food Co-Op (S Braddock to Forbes)
Carnegie Library Squirrel Hill
CMU
REI
Duquesne
Portico
I don't think you'll get much breakfast doing that route, especially if you want to make the political dog and pony, as Marko82 put it.
Sounds great marko. ill be there to see if we can hit them all.I also would like to be in town to hear the Mayor. I agree hitting the Northside first then we cross the bridge and won't have to double back to be in town.
Everyone, please take some pics of Bike to Work Day if you get the chance. Also, if you're on Twitter our handles are @bikepgh or @cffpgh. Hashtag = #btwdpgh Thanks!
It's a beautiful morning! Sorry, Scott - I took a scenic picture but didn't think to take one of the stop on the North Shore. But it was nice meeting people and drinking coffee!
Puppy on the north side at general Robinson and federal.
what a cute puppy. I would have gone way out of my way to see that.
they were out of swag bags by the time I got to the coop. how bad did I miss out?
Pretty bad. Socks and water bottle...'nuff said.
OMG!!!
All this bicycle glory!
And PUPPIES, too!!!!!!!
Really sweet loot. The water bottle and socks are especially awesome.
sad, I guess I'll have to get up earlier next year. well, I was up...I just need to leave my house earlier.
Fabulous day, awesome to see all the actual real people. I feel warm and fuzzy.
They seemed to be running out of the bags where I was also.
At Whole Foods, we ran out of our bags right around 8:30. I forgot to grab a "passport" card though. How silly of me!
Doughboy and Baum Blvd Auto had bags when I got to them, but Friendship and CMU did not. (Pitt, as usual, were doing their own thing...)
BTW, the City posted this picture of Mayor Luke riding to work: https://twitter.com/CityPGH/status/203507918929264640
Should the Mayor know better than to ride on the sidewalk in a business district?
Biking To Work Day via O12 Flyer!
Mine was the only bike for this 6am trip. I had a 7am meeting that I could neither be late nor sweaty for.
Then I helped Steve Patchan set up tables at the City-County Bldg around 6:35. (He did most of the work.)
Having my swag Nugo bar for lunch now nom nom.
Around 9am, we had dignitaries at the same spot, speaking.
And no, I don't know what's on the wall behind Rich Fitzgerald. There were several much better cameras there. Who can identify?
even everyone's favorite steeler tweeted about b2wd

this deserves an image:
Stu: looks like someone's propped a cutout of someone's face on the dedication plaque. Can't tell whose face, though.
antonio brown's tweet suggests wearing a helmet, so i guess we can presume he normally wears one, settling the debate that surrounded his video?
also: did anyone get socks that were too big for them, and want to trade your large for my small?
Edited to remove my trading offer - my husband wants my large socks. Sorry!
Wow, is that actually the major and the county exec standing side by side? Way to go Lou!
I got up way too late for any swag but I did see a lot of bikes out and about.
Now I'm going to have to go back over and see what that face is.
did anyone notice any difference in automobile traffic today? i wonder if all the people out on bikes made a difference.
Here are my photos from Hidration Stations for the "Tour de Breakfast"

The cutout propped is of the person who had the bike-accident last weekend.....
This thread is awesome. Thanks everyone for taking pics and posting them. What a fantastic day.
And just so you all know, we were on the sidewalk for maybe 20 feet to get to the Portico.
The clerk at the Social Security administration asked if I drove or if I took a bus.
that's a really nice surly LHT with a double-legged kickstand and a triple-sprung Brooks saddle behind the county executive. probably has an orange triangle on it.
i missed all the opportunities for swag, so i went ahead and bought myself some fancy new bike shorts to celebrate. and i DID get an infrequent, fair-weather cyclist to go on a long, ambling ride to his work with me. whilst cooling our feet in the north shore fountain he said 'i should ride more often'. so that's a win!
i thought a lot today about my first few rides in the city, and how dramatically and positively it effected my life. hopefully bike to work day did that for lots of people.
oh, also overhead today in the strip 'i didn't realize how great this city is until i got on a bike.' warm fuzzy feelings!
I think I rode past you if you were in the strip an hour ago outside of the old firehouse lounge.
yes, i think so. bar marco. usually my final, luxurious destination after a good day of riding about town. ^___^
Nice pics Lucia - thanks! Some days I feel sad that I like to sleep in
