Someone asked me today where might be a good bikable vantage point from which to observe Monday morning's 9am bridge demolition. I hadn't given this any thought.
I'd say that the overpass for the Parkway on/off ramps just upstream would be ideal. But of course it will either be off-bounds or crowded with pedestrians. Pocusset is likely to have the same issues. MTB'ing might be a solution but I wouldn't know. I do know that dangling from a UAV is being discouraged.
Any thoughts?

I got a message from the Greenfield community association saying we're supposed to watch from Schlenley park. There will be signs. But me? Saline street, baby.

Here's a decent viewpoint on Bridle Trail in Schenley Park.
The trees will provide a screen for the baseball-sized chunks of flying concrete (just kidding).
Above photo was taken from the location of the red dot below:
Here's a map of the exclusion zone:

Looks good.
Note that the authorities want you to go to Overlook Dr.
Here's what that looks like in the Google Earth:
The spot on Bridle will definitely be closer up.
Note also that at showtime both temperature and the chance of rain will be in the 30s...

Fwiw. It looks like you can still travel down greenfield rd in schenley park and connect to the poccuset st bikeway. Did this route today and they have a clear path around. Not sure how long it will last as construction ramps up.

I've done the Pocusset St – Greenfield Rd – Panther Hollow Rd route a number of times since the the big Ka-Boom. It's really pleasant. There's a fenced passage that lets you get by the work area. The only problem I've encountered is the occasional jogger. Do make a point of saying "hi" if you see any workers about.
For you all Tag-o_Ramers out there: architectural elements of the former bridge are being stored along Greenfield, under tarps. It looks cool and vaguely other-worldly.
