Greetings from Regent Sq.
Popping in here to say hello - newbie to the world of Pgh. biking, and I must say BikePgh is such a great resource!
Looking forward to learning a lot - and hitting the road! I live in Regent Sq.; so far I've biked throughout Frick Park, and trekked Forbes to downtown via Schenley Park (but got VERY lost in Schenley while trying to find the river path - I think I have it figured out now...will try again this morning).

If by river path you mean the Jail Trail, there are two bike-friendly routes there from Schenley Park. You can either go across the Greenfield Bridge and down Greenfield Ave (the trailhead is at the bottom of the hill and around the corner - use caution through the cattle chute there), or bike into Oakland and take the Junction Hollow Trail to the same trailhead.
The FOC ride is pretty fun, and I'll 'third' the recommendation.

I'll also put a plug in for using the racks on buses. No, I don't work for Port Authority, but I am a transit advocate. IMHO it's worth the $2 not to have to deal with sketchy parts of town, heavy traffic, a massive hill between here and there, a long distance between here and there, or the occasional downpour.

dwillen yes that's the route. Great ride to North Shore and back home today (before the downpour started). Still got tripped up trying to get to Boundary via Schenley...once I got to the Phipps, I continued on Schenley, wound left on to Joncaire and S. Bouquet, then on to Boundary. (there on was fine, I rode Junction Hollow yesterday). Coming back home I just kept an eye on the Cathedral and got back on Schenley Dr. and through the park. Eventually.
