I bought a helmet cam from helmetcamera.com awhile ago (actually went to their place when I was in DC for another purpose).

It is of the style that hooks up to a camcorder used as a tape deck. The quality is awesome, but it is a birds nest of wires and not bike friendly when it comes to a daily-use thing.

I have caught some pretty crazy stuff on critical mass rides with it, including getting right up at some folks who get pissed off and yell right into the camera without even noticing I have one on my head.

I have seen other videos of people using them to catch people who try and run cyclists off the road, etc. I just bought mine to film cool stuff like mountain biking, etc.

I wouldn't say the video quality it great on the GoPro camera, at least by today's standards.

Although, I would say it is very good for the price/package. If it were a couple years ago, I would say it is great, but technology moves too fast.

I have a GoPro Hero Wideangle camera at home that I've yet to use, just got it a couple of weeks ago... Will keep ya updated.

I have an Oregon Scientific ATC2K camera that I strap to my helmet. I use it regularly when I'm going to be riding on the street as a sort of insurance policy so that if someone does something really stupid, I may have recorded evidence.

It's a pretty durable camera. I've strapped it on someone's helmet going over the falls at Ohiopyle. He flipped and spent some time splashing underwater and it ran just fine. Recorded the whole thing. I've also strapped it on the end of an atlatl dart. Neat effect. I've also got footage from my cam strapped to a paintball gun. I'll add the links from my YouTube page once I get home.

I've also seen footage of them strapped to model rockets.

I've heard good things about the GoPro and was thinking of getting it to mount on the bike. I like the wide angle lens part.

I have the gopro and it is easy, relatively cheap, waterproof, shockproof (tested that this past weekend at seven springs)...did I say easy?

About 2 hours record time with a 4GB SD Card. Uses 2 AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries.

If anyone is looking for a non-safety/insurance-type camera mount option, a small point and shoot and a gorillapod makes for a good handlebar cam.

While poking around that commuteorlando.com website, I found a link to these guys who rigged up a couple three or four cameras to help them make cycle videos. Very slick, and now I want to go video bits of Pittsburgh traffic! Alas... it's far more intensive than I think I have time for.

They have some neat videos there if you poke around. Wicked cheesy soundtrack though. I'd rather there be some narration, like what the cyclist is thinking/doing all along the way.

Oh you don't have to buy a fancy cam, I did this a couple of times. Duct tape a cheap web cam to your handle bars plug the wire into your laptop, set it to record, put it in your bag, there you go....

Did it on a double tall at the stadium during a Steelers game, and on a road bike. If you double the speed it looks CRAZY.

You have to be a little careful of your cable placement, but this will get you recording in the morning...

^^Not sure if I'd want my notebook's hard drive having to endure that.
