I would be interested, willing, and able to do this but work until at least 7pm weeknights, so could not go to the "training' session. Unfortunate. How much training is needed to do this?

There are traffic counting strips on the Penn Ave cycle track. They are located by Heinz Hall between 6th and 7th street, between 9th and 10th streets (in front of Sienna Mercatto, I think) and between 12th and 14th streets. Make sure you hit them all!

Any idea on how the bike/ped count went yesterday? I know the official figures won't come until later. Just curious about any interesting observations and figures from those that participated.

We were encouraged to use the #countpgh hashtag on Twitter and that injected a bit of fun into the process: being able to interact with our fellow counters.

I saw a total of 7 cyclists and 330 peds and got a bit of color on my winter/Caspar legs.

I didn't do the Twitter thing much, but traded a couple of observations with folks on Facebook. I didn't want to get too much into the social media, as it made it harder to look for people.

I helped with CountPGH (counting pedestrians and cyclists) for two hours yesterday. If you want to volunteer, they're still counting today and tomorrow (May 18 and 19). See https://www.facebook.com/events/265632673780460/ Some notes from my counting location on Carson St between 17th and 18th Sts, 4-6pm yesterday: Many pedestrians, few cyclists. Surprisingly few kids: 24 out of 743 pedestrians; 0 out of 35 cyclists. Only 1 female cyclist, out of 35 - disappointing. Bike traffic peaked around 5:30pm. Pedestrian traffic was fairly constant but dipped a bit around the same time (5:15pm). The Milk Shake Factory is very popular; many peds carrying milkshakes. So many smokers - yuck! Never sit in front of a vape shop again - must wash these clothes ASAP.

Got rained out last Tuesday, so I didn't count. Looked like showers on Tuesday, so I didn't count. Poured rain all night and well past my 6 a.m. departure time, so I skipped today, too. Here's hoping Thursday's weather will be dry.

I like it, but the geek in me needs % of total bikes and cars.  After all, maybe there was only one cyclist that day. :)
