Bump!
HOLY CRAP! Another MTB ride!!!
Ride bikes! No-Drop fun for all!
YAY!!!!
Casual Fridays! Back to School Edition
Casual group mountain bike ride in Frick. No-drop, all skill levels, relaxed wind-down for the week. Riding with all skill levels is a great way to learn new skills or take it easy and work on perfecting existing ones. Meet at the Tennis Court Lot (S Braddock and Biddle) at 6:15pm. Ride starts at 6:30
SECOND TRY THIS WEEK: We will continue the ride after dark for anyone who wishes to keep going. Bring your lights as I don't have any spares to lend right now. If you don't want to ride in the dark, don't worry! We'll be going back to the cars at dusk so people can decide for themselves if they want to continue.

Out of curiosity, how stupidly bright should one's lights be? Could I get by with a 70-lumen helmet light and an old MiNewt on the bars, or does one need to worship at the Altar of HID and Cree?
70 is pretty low. I have a pair of 780 lumen lights that I got at thick. I'd suggest at least a 200ish lumen light.
That said, there will still be about 1.5 hours of Light free riding. Also I'm happy to do a super beginner friendly loop of highland park durring the day on a weekend for a few people too.
Also HID sucks. It's all about high output LED these days. No more weird rainbow effects when you bump the light.
somewhere between One Candlepower & the Sun should work.
They dropped it to 740, but I basically have two of this model:

My MiNewt is nominally 200 on high...I guess that + my helmet light would work for starters.
Swap them if you can. Helmet is more important than bar if you have to choose.
I have two of those eBay lamps. CREE XM-L powered, output is probably around 500 lumens each? They're also insanely cheap. Both work rather well. I bought a diffuser lens to spread the beam out a little because XM-Ls are pretty focused.
And helmet mount:
i am inhaler-less again tonight. i will be leading a nice slow group for beginners and out of shape folks like myself. if their are fast people at the ride i'm going to encourage them to do their own loop.
come watch me die from asthma!
Cburch, singulair is now available generic...cheaper asthma meds! Yay!
yup. i found that out today when the pharmacy botched my refills. hence my imminent doom.
