my house just went on the market... Ideally I'd like to sell it to someone who would like to bike to work. I work on the North Shore and commute from O'hara township (Fox Chapel area). The commute is terrific, 5 miles of trails and 5 on the road. It's mostly flat. the house is 121 Rockingham Road O'hara PA 15238. you'll find more details online..

Just curios, what route do you take? I live nearby and wouldn't say the bike commute to town is terrific. I'm either beside the train tracks, up and down cabbage hill, or have to cross the river twice.

my commute is a little better, let me try to explain. I have a .7 mile downhill from my house. Then I hit Freeport Road around the intersection of Fox Chapel Road and Freeport Road. I take Freeport road the whole way to the end of Sharpsburg. Freeport road, except in Sharpsburg, has a large burm and traffic is decent. From the end of Sharpsburg I get on the RxR service Road which takes me right to the trailhead at MillVale... then it's trail the whole way to PNC park. I'm only .3 mile from PNC park to my office at Allegheny Center Mall. It's downhill and flat on the way in... and only a .3 mile climb going home.

I live nearby (e Waldheim). It is a lovely neighborhood. Walkable/bikeable to a great park and the Waterworks. Great school district and elementary school (ohara)

Gotcha...I do basically the same thing, but only take the RR "service road" when I feel like riding my mountain bike. I know plenty of folks swear there is no problem taking their skinny-tired fixie down the ballast, but it's a little too hairy for my tastes. If and when they complete the Etna trail extension then I'll call it a terrific commute :)
Good luck with the house sale! I agree with edr that the neighborhood is great, and it's becoming more bike-friendly.

My ass feels like it is going to die even on my mountain bike with suspension on the front fork and the seat.
