That is seriously hard core.
Interesting/Motivational Reading
Some of you may know about the Tour Divide race (self-supported MTB race along the Continental Divide, from Canada to Mexico). Deanna Adams recently completed it in 31 days, riding a fixed gear. Big deal, you say? Her bike is a 80s era road bike with 'cross tires. Note her new-fangled pedal system--platform pedals and straps.
Steevo, you've ridden this route, right? I find her exploits to be crazy/impressive. Even more impressive considering that several years ago, noted fixed off-road riders Matt Chester and Rudi Nadler tried to do the TD on proper MTBs (well, Rudi at least--MC was sporting slicks) and they both bowed out.
Edit: Apparently Ms Adams was disqualified for deviating from the course at some point. Still, pretty decent effort, I'd say.
Also worth noting he was running a 47-17 gear ratio.
