This sometimes happens to me, too. If I click on the link under "freshness" it takes me to the right page, though not always to where I left off reading before.
Is anyone else having problems getting to certain threads?
For example...when I click on the MS150 thread, it takes me to the 5 Boros ride registration thread. Ahh!
Yes, it's been occasionally broken like that for a long time. It seemed to get particularly bad a few days ago.
For me, the MS150 thread works OK, but "Post a video" goes to "anyone up for a group ride", and "NY 5 boros ride" goes to "trail condition south side trail". Interesting that it screws up different threads for different people.
The Freshness column always takes you to the end of the thread, without trying to recall where you were, so it works fine.
It also always seems to forget where you were when someone revives an older thread.
The freshness column works for me--thanks!
I haven't seen that sort of confusion. The only routine error I get is the board forgetting that I've seen a thread before, so I get the yellow dot. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
But to reiterate, I have not seen any serious confusion or "cross-threading".
Stu, I do seem to recall many threads seem to cross reference vikings, ninjas, Jens and Chuck Norris...
The only thing I can think of is the time one of the threads redirected to the board main page instead of the thread.
True, the search feature routinely screws that one up, I've noticed. In particular, the first five entries on the left column will be missing a critical component on the path, causing a redirect to the main page.
Except for the redirects to Vikings, ninjas, Jens and Chuck Norris, of course.
hmmm. that's a new problem that i haven't heard of yet.
@erok - Just verified that, it happens in both Firefox and IE. Type anything in the search box (I tested with "Ellsworth" and "Detroit"). The first four entries in the left side are missing half the URL.
oh, i know about the search box issues. it's the issue if you are looking at it regular-like that i didn't know about
I don't think I've ever had the "click on one thread, get another" problem.
I definitely have had the other problem Stu described where some threads get yellow dots instead of the "circle arrow" thing. I'd speculate the board only stores so much user information (or is it all in the cookie?) so if there are too many threads active it won't track them all. Any truth to that, Erok? And if so, could we raise the limit? It obviously won't help if very old threads get resurrected, but...
And - I sometimes have one more "yellow dot" problem where the dot won't go away. It's happening to me right now on the "Epic potholes of the 2011 season" thread. Even after I read it, the dot stays. Usually it disappears, even if I'm having the other issue.
It must be stored server side, since my history follows me around regardless of what computer I'm on.
I have experience the click on this thread go to another problem a number of times, but it seems to just go away after a few hours and isn't something I seem to be able to reliably repeat.
good point dan...
Just wanna say Im having the "click on a thread get a different one" problem. I click the bike racks on buses thread and get the trek thread. I don't know if this matters, but when it opens the trek thread, it goes to my post. It usually doesn't do that, it goes to the first, last, or last read.
I'm not having the "click on a thread get a different one" problem, but I can't post for some reason. Tried posting to the hobby thread, and it failed. logged out and back in, fail. this is me trying another thread posting. no fail?
(edited to add the obvious: no fail.)
