June 12 Annual RBR Recumbent Bike and Trike Rally

Hey everybody! @reddan / RBR Pittsburgh is putting on a recumbent and trike rally, but upright riders are welcome to join in the fun too. June 12, meet at the pump house. 100 mile, 85 mile, 48 mile routes are provided. There will be limited SAG support, the rides are self-supported, but there is no fee. Come out and ride with us. I will be on my catrike 700, which is always a blast to ride around. Looking forward to riding with a bunch of folks on bents and trikes and all kinds of bikes. Weeeee! @stefb: Yeah, I know. Just the way the schedule worked out. I'll be volunteering at one of the Saturday rest stops for the MS150.

http://rbr-pgh.com/annual-rbr-recumbent-bike-and-trike-rally/ For those interested in next weekend's Rally, here's the latest and greatest. Route update: due to a critical section of Bunola River Rd being closed for construction, the planned 45-mile flat riverside road ride has been scrapped in favor of a directed tour of the Pittsburgh trail system. The 82-mile Montour Loop has been scouted, with minor route updates. The challenge century route is mostly unchanged, with an extra ridge climb outside of Elizabeth being added to circumvent the closed bridge. That said, although this is a well-known route, it has not been scouted in the past few weeks. Given the amount of local construction in progress, be not surprised if adaptability is required at some point. ;-) The overall schedule is as follows: 6:30 AM, registration opens 7:00 AM, century riders depart 8:00 AM, Montour Loop riders depart 10:00 AM, Pittsburgh Trail Tour and self-directed GAP riders depart 4:00 PM, organizers pack up, end of emergency SAG support. Do note that all are welcome, even those poor, benighted souls who have not yet converted to the Dork Side of the Force. :-)

I scouted the city route on Saturday and it is fantastic.

(Hopefully) final set of updated cue sheets/maps have been posted, after scouting all routes. The century route was originally designed to be as flat as possible for the last third of the route. Unfortunately, due to the bridge under construction on Bunola River Rd, I ended up adding a bonus climb outside Elizabeth (Pangburn Hollow->Saddlers Hollow->Williamsport). The climbiest bit is Saddlers Hollow; freshly repaved, low traffic, and very, very pretty. In theory, one can walk along the RR ballast next to the construction, and avoid that climb, if one were inclined to decline the incline. http://rbr-pgh.com/annual-rbr-recumbent-bike-and-trike-rally/
