that is pretty incredible
LAPD and Critical Mass - so happy together (cops on tall bikes)
That's pretty awesome. Every Friday night is Critical Mass for the car scene so why not let the cyclists have some fun.
I love the pro-car commenters. Even in LA they still blame congestion and slow traffic on cyclists. Crazy!
Flock of Cycles could really take off in L.A., I think.
Between our couple of threads on it (May thread, June thread, the late-April thread where we came up with the idea and name) and my couple of blogs on it (May 21, June 18), I think they can get the idea of what FoC is all about.
we should invite our local bike cops to foc. maybe even have them with us when we invade cm? i just love the mental image of some ultra-agit-prop punk rock kid trying to figure out wtf is going on when he finds himself next to a COP in the middle of cm and the guy is just riding along.
dude, if we invaded CM with (friendly) police we'd get singled out as NARCs and u-locked for being traitors or somesuch thing. heh
I hereby officially invite any member of Pittsburgh's law enforcement to ride my tall bike.
THIS.

Haha, i really hope this happens!
And that cop on the tall bike looks like Brock Lesnar, just saying.
Does anyone know of a way to contact the city bike cops? I think it would be pretty cool to invite them to FOC--even just to show them what we are about.
Pitt police are pretty proud of their cycling cops.
The University has been on the cutting edge in the use of police bicycles in the Pittsburgh area. Pitt Police had the first unit in the city in 1983. Officers are trained and certified by the National Police Mountain Bike Association. The department has a certified as an instructor and has trained members of the City of Pittsburgh Police as well as other municipal police officers...

Their email is police at pitt dot edu
why have all the bike cops i've seen had 26" knobbies? never understood that. i mean, i rather doubt they're going to be chasing hooligans down single track through the city parks.
i could ask chris, there are a couple of really cool bike cops that used to come in the store a lot. i think they still do, i'm just never there. they used to do pretty cool stuff like use their crazy cop lights to light up riding spots if they were on break at night and we were around riding street. nothing like a cop lighting up a wall ride for you and your buddies!
Seeing bike cops makes me want to be a bike cop so bad!! Haha. Going through the academy and just telling everyone "Oh Swat? No no, i'm gonna be a bike cop is all. That's it."
I'd love my job for sure.
