Looking for advice on pursuing insurance compensation after being doored

My kid (age 21) was doored on Coral St 10/17/18 by a careless driver in a parked minivan, who flung her door open into traffic without checking to see if the road was clear. Driver is taking responsibility and filed a claim with her insurance company, Geico. My kid has a fractured clavicle due to clipping her shoulder on the edge of the door and flipping over her handlebars. Otherwise okay, 6 weeks of healing expected. Looking for advice on how to proceed with getting fairly compensated for injuries/damage to bike/lost wages....anyone been through this recently? My kid doesn't drive and isn't covered by our car insurance. Appreciate any help!

Call her insurance company. They're usually willing to settle to avoid a suit. If the settlement seems low then contact a lawyer. Since this is personal injury the consultation will be free. They get paid on the other end taking a cut of the money received.

Also, you daughter should call her health insurance company and notify them that it was part of a car crash. When I broke my foot (running...) I got a call from the insurance company asking me if I was involved in a car crash. I think they randomly audit bone breaks. I'm not sure it changes anything, but maybe her insurance can recoup their losses on this from the woman and/or her car insurance. If they can, I'm not sure what that means for your daughter's out of pocket expenses. But it is definitely worth the 5 minute phone call to the health insurance company to find out.
