I'd call the Sunoco - that intersection is pretty busy but my grandma lived there for years and all kinds of nice things happen (that was her favorite E&P for 20 years). I'd say there's still hope. Even if you just post a "lost" sign in the window.
Lost Bag
I'm not holding out a whole lot of hope getting this back, but it can't hurt to post anyway.
I realized at 2am last night, I probably left my backpack in the parking lot of the Sunoco at the corner of Route 8 and Middle Rd. I was loading my bike and a trailer into my car and I don't think my backpack made it in.
The bag was a grey and black Mission Workshop Rambler (http://www.missionworkshop.com/images/product-galleries/vandal/700sq/3-quarters-silver.jpg)
It has some stuff in there I'd really rather not lose. There is a tiny chance someone walked into my house and took it while I was out last night, but I doubt it.
I stopped there at 2am last night and this morning, nothing. They are open 24 hours, so the odds of someone turning it in there now is pretty low.
Contacted Etna and Shaler police, nothing.
Wife and kids are going to hang some posters later.
Going to try the Pgh police too, one never knows.
Did you do a scan of bushes, etc nearby? Many times a bag or wallet will be lifted, scanned quickly for cash/goodies, and then disposed of. I've found wallets (devoid of cash but with all other contents intact) in public restrooms. Someone once found my gym bag - contents intact - in a bunch of bushes at a local park after my bag was stolen from my car during a soccer practice or game. Total distance from my car to the bushes was a couple hundred yards.
I did look around this morning, unfortunatly there is a ton of underbrush an a meandering creek in the area, tons of places for a bag to be stashed. I'm thinking it wasn't tossed somewhere, probably just carried off in a car.
Years ago I had a bag stolen out of the back of car with a ripped soft top. I didn't know it was gone until someone called my workplace (I had a pay stub in the bag) a few days later, found it behind their dumpster between 5th and Forbes in Oakland.
Sunday night 7:00pm.
Bag is returned, with all contents intact.
Person who found it didn't find my wallet inside until today.
Faith in human race = restored.
WOW! That is wonderful!
I once lost a wallet while visiting in DC.. had it mailed to me about a year later.. Someone had found it, then accidentally lost it in their own car.. Only to find it again.. and mail it to me due to a rent check I had in the wallet with my address.
PS. YEAH! Glad to see people are looking out.
