There's the Bike Pittsburgh Online Crash Map. I can't tell you at what frequency it is maintained.
Map or Roster of Pgh bike accidents / fatalities
Does anybody have a map of Pgh bike accidents and/or fatalities for recent years, or failing that a list of dates/names/places? TIA, V.
that is so awesome, I never heard of it.
Is there anyway to slice the presentation, like "since 2008" or "fatal" ?
Does somebody maintain that? (which I realize also means, does BikePgh need somebody to maintain that? I'd be willing.)
I added my crash in December 2008 and it's there. Someone must be maintaining it! Who are you, mystery person?
I think Swalfoort was keeping a list which included crashes mentioned on the police blotter.
I can confirm that I have been monitoring the city police blotter for sccidents, and monitoring news reports for reports of bike accidents. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a citation code for hitting a cyclist. So they seem to be reported as somethibg like 'incident involving an attended vehicle', which could mean anything. And in terms of full disclosure I dont have that language quite right, but I am too depressed to look it up right now.
And, in the case of a hit and run, there is no citation issued, and nothing shows up on the police blotter.
I've updated the bike crash map a time or two, basef on generally available information. I think it is a valuable data record. the only accident I specifically remember adding was the horrible on sidewalk run down on Baum off Liberty a rear or two ago.
I have written an email to the community police officer in every police zone in the city stressing the importance of including bike incidents in the daily blotter, and explaining why it was important. I never heard back from any of them. I also 311'd the same request, but never got a response other than 'we have forwarded your concern to the appropriate personnel.'
Any one else have any good ideas?
