McKees Rocks Bridge clean-up April 25th-volunteers needed!

As I mentioned in my previous thread, we are going to clean the upstream sidewalk on the McKees Rocks bridge on Saturday, April 25th and are looking for any help we can get . We will coordinate with the McKees Rocks CDC and their annual clean up day, meet at the Municipal Building, 340 Bell Avenue 2nd Floor, McKees Rocks, 15136 at 9:00 or at the beginning of the bridge (right side coming from McKees Rocks) shortly thereafter. The CDC has some tools, but we can never have too many brooms, shovels etc. If you are able to help, let me know here-PM me if you need more info or if you need to get in touch with me. The CDC has offered some refreshments and hopefully some of their volunteers will help us-the bridge is long but the worst of it is in the first half mile. Thanks, Matt

I've got a commitment at noon, but I plan to be there for as long as I can. If I am bringing tools (brooms, etc) I'll need to drive. Should I park on Helen Street, or is there a better place?

There is a county owned parking lot on Helen street at the bottom of the ramp 100 feet to the right coming from the McKees Rocks side. I'm always on my bike there so I never noticed it!

Swalfoort, thanks for volunteering, this is a bump to see if anyone else is interested. Thanks.

I was planning on helping, but this is going to conflict with the Keg Ride which I'm already committed to. If you plan on doing a round-2 (or another bridge )let us know.

Ditto. I actually have a quadruple conflict that day & the bridge work came up #2. If there's a resched of the cleanup, I will be there.

Thanks for responding, even if you are going to be doing something that sounds way more fun than sweeping! We will do what we can on the 25th, if need be we'll schedule another day but hopefully we can make the bridge sidewalk less of an obstacle course.

It took six of us an entire morning to clean the upstream West End Bridge sidewalk. I suspect you're going to need either a doubled team or a doubled workday to do one side of that very long bridge.

Stu, you are right, the bridge is a mile long, we are planning on tackling the worst half of it on Saturday. if we have enough people or it goes faster than expected, we'll keep going.

I was planning on roll out party for CTC so I took day off on Friday. I have a blower so I can take it with me and during Friday stop for a couple of hours "to move dirt around" (into piles) for a couple of hours.

Mikhail, that would be great. I rode it this morning, our focus on Saturday will be from the McKees Rocks side to the first pillar; the middle section is ok but the last section heading to route 65 could use some dirt or actually glass moved around- if you could work on that side I'll get the piles picked up. Not sure where you would park though, I really appreciate the effort and don't want to inconvenience you.

For work on that end, I would start looking for a parking space somewhere off of California and Davis, then use the steps to get down to the bridge.

Mikhail, a big thank you for the work you did today. I rode home on the sidewalk and was amazed at how much you got done!

Nice job everyone who helped clean up the sidewalk. I would have helped but was riding in CTC. My work commute is from Moon to downtown and I gave the sidewalk a go on Wed morning. Boy, what a difference. A hearty thanks to all and to Matt for organizing the clean-up. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
