Yep--11:59p at Dippy. I was just about to send out a FB message.
Midnight Mass?
Happening tomorrow?
I'll be there. Haven't been to a ride in weeks - looking forward to it!
Should I bring your shirt? Anyone else coming that wants a shirt?
I have some post-free ride tinkering to do with my bike so hopefully I can make it. Looks like it will be a beautiful night for riding.
Dwillen - that'd be swell
My fixed gear is still geared for the track, and I think I am going to leave it--that way, I can yell at everyone for going to slow up hills.
It's been a stressful week, so be prepared. HILLS, HILLS, UNNECESSARY HILLS!
...just kidding, it is going to be a flat ride this month.
awesome. flat sounds good
Noah, we've only met a few times, but you should know by now that it isn't really going to be flat.
well it's pretty much impossible here for it to be flat anyway....
There are some relatively flat routes. Think about FOC, there is rarely a serious climb.
Well keep in mind where I'm from (Ohio) and what flat means to me.... anyway I'll try to make it tonight, my bike is being a little sketchy right now...
Meet or leave at 11:59?
Meet at 11:59, leave by 12:30
Hey!
I'm planning on making it to this ride, but riding all the way to dippy its abit far, specially that late... any chance you could do a 'pick up' closer to my neck of the woods? I'm on Lawrenceville...
I'll ask when I show up and either text you or give you a call.
Looking forward to my first midnight mass ride. How long do these rides typically last? @Dan- do you have any more large yellow flock T-shirts? If so, can you bring one for me? It's Mike from the CM ride last week. Thanks.
They last as long as you want it to, you can ditch and head home whenever you want. The last one was about 2 hours I think.
I have all the shirts stashed in my bike locker. Don't remember which colors but I'll bring them all.
Usually lasts 2 or so hours. People start leaving after that.
Cool! I could get up to Penn Avenue/Bloomfield Area and meet you somewhere up there
Bikeygirl-are you good to be riding? MM is a quite a bit faster than flock.
If you're good for it, we can definitely head over your way.
Thanks, Dan. See you guys soon.
i'm being a wuss and brining my geared bike.
Well.... I can ride ok, I only have discomfort getting in & out of the bike from my accident. I know is a faster ride, but I still wanna try if that's ok.... If is abit too much, I'll just take off earlier.... what speeds are we talking?
Regardless, I still wanna try..... it is a beautiful night to ride!
And well, to make the ride less dissruptive, I'll meet you at dippy then.....
You sure? We can take the ride over your way. I just wasn't sure what your current state of riding ability was--when I get hurt I usually chill for a little.
If you want, I can head over your way now and ride to dippy with you.
Gotta bail guys, I ended up getting antsy and went on a long evening ride of my own 22 miles all over the city, including up to Allentown on Arlington Ave... whew
Just got home and it's time for BED. Have fun and ride safe
Beat you..... I'm at dippy already!
that was really fun!
i apologize for yelling at that guy in the car. i should have told him just to be more careful next time. but i was just tired of constantly having a car pull out in front of me again and again.
when is the next one?
Ditto!! That was fun!
definitely a lot of fun - glad i decided to do that instead of sitting on the couch all night.
i learned a valuable lesson about sprinting downhill when it's dark out, very glad it wasn't "the hard way".
Well liberty isn't usually like that. They need to finish That road work. On my commute home I have seen the cars directed into the bike lane.
btw.... THANK YOU everyone for putting up with me last night. I know I drifted behind several times during the ride -specially at the hills. It really meant alot to see people sometimes staying behind with me until I caught up with the group (Joe, Dan, Nick, and other peoples who I don't know your names). I hope I didn't slow the ride too much. I'll admit that at-times I felt quite-challenged, BUT, saviored every minute of it! In my mind, that is all good training for getting better at being two-wheeled
Have a great 4th of July weekend!!
What hills did you guys tackle?
Another fantastic ride. Got me all stoked to build my lights rig for bikefest.
Be on the lookout for a white lincoln MKZ, license plate GLF1441, apparently blind as a bat. Stef, you were tactful in you're yelling and said what everyone wanted to say. I was right behind you and could tell by the way you kicked up your speed to catch up to him that you were pretty miffed about it. I still say we need some "I'm a terrible driver" bumper stickers.
someone make those stickers! actually, it's probably not very legal to do something like that. perhaps those ribbon magnet type things would work.
i gps'ed the whole thing. i just need to upload the course somewhere.
Glad everyone had a good time!
I'd say it was another very successful ride (with the exception of the guy on Atwood).
I am not saying I would, but I have the resources to make "I'm a dangerous driver" vinyl magnets....
Oh man I should have totally gone with you guys, that route looks not much worse compared to my route last night

The little cross in Allentown is me trying to figure out how the eff to get to Grandview Park. I gave up just a bit too easily it looks like.
yeah you should have come!
now that i look at the route again, it seems that when we got into downtown, it didn't exactly track it correctly. i wonder if there was interference from the buildings
well i'm glad i went on my solo ride, i got to finally conquer mt. washington, the ss trail at night, watched a shift change at the jail, and got hit on repeatedly by patrons of the gay bar on liberty. all in all a good ride
i only do mt washington on pedal pittsburgh. it is rewarding though.
@bikeygirl - which bike were you riding?
btw, wtf happened with the car? i was hanging back and when i got there all i heard was those dudes getting all aggro which i thought was pretty uncool. I'm all for letting someone have it when they do something dumb/dangerous but not into trying to provoke a fight.
that was pretty funny with the light on 2nd ave, though - I wonder how long it would have stayed green. but again, i think it went a little too far with the cars.
The guy in the lincoln turned right into a cyclist - like he wasnt even there. We caught up to him at the next light and stef asked him what his problem was, and then he challenged 25 cyclists to a fight from inside his car. All in all, a good time, haha.
The guy was a total dick. I doubt being nice and polite to him would have made a bit of difference. He blew a stop sign and almost killed about 5 cyclists.
@stefb. I was in the MTB, orange helmet...
I saw you guys rolling down Greenfield Ave. I wanted to give chase, but then I was like "Ah, I'm too lazywith somebody" IE would have had to run outside, unlock my bike, and then race down the hill to catch up
Peirce, was your bike locked on a sign on Greenfield Ave?
In front of the Win Green!
noah, i saw you at penn and negley on my way home from seven springs, but i figured someone screaming "NOAH!" from inside an suv might be a bit distracting in that oh so friendly intersection.
"NOAH! GET AN ARK!"
@ndromb ..... LOL!
cburch
Was that tonight? I was busy scanning for kids ready to shoot bottle rockets at me. Riding tonight was complete bedlam. From the crowds downtown, then in Lawrenceville, and all the private fireworks displays... whew
friday night. i tend to hide in my house for the 4th, but stef always tries to get me to go out. i guess this year we are going to the big butler fair to watch the schoolbus demolition derby.
holy crap that sounds downright awesome. i think i might have to go to that.
Schoolbus demolition derby? Seriously?
yes. i went last year and a few of them caught on fire. this year there was just smoke from the smashed up engines. there was a bus that had big cutouts of south park characters with kenney in the back seat
