hi bikers! i'm writing to ask for advice. i'm looking to buy a mixte that i'll use to commute to work, preferably already built up. planning on adding a basket and a rear rack.
does anyone have suggestions for models / brands / new vs used / etc? anything else i should consider when buying?
thanks :))

You didn't say if you were looking for new/used? What is your preference? Budget?

thanks for your reply! i'm open to either new or used.
budget is ~500, but i'm interested in hearing about more expensive bikes too, if you think they might be worth it.

Here's one that's probably in the right price range.

I didn't see a price, but when I bought a Torker Graduate a few years ago it was under $500.
great - i'll look into these. thank you both for the feedback!

Virtue Bikes, sold at Iron City Bikes in Larryville, makes one called the Curve 7, very, very attractive. And I am a super snob. It should be well within your price range. And I've heard that ICB is a pretty good place to buy.

I actually bought a very nice mixte earlier this year. When I was searching I found a very limited selection of that style locally, but I really did not want a top bar. There were a couple of nice options though. Check with Thick Bikes on the Southside and with Iron City bikes (they have two locations - Oakland & Lawrenceville). They both had a model I liked. Might be at the high end of your budget, but check with them. They also might have had another model a little less expensive. Plus Thick sells second hand bikes too.
Good luck.
I'm open to selling my commuter mixte. It's a powder blue Univega (vintage 80s) with ergo grips (very comfortable), front Weld basket, Velo Orange fenders, new Continental tires. If interested text me at 412-303-0566.
(Basket is attached and fenders are not shown.)
