Curt Brown was riding up Big Sewickley Creek Road today and was hit and killed by a car that crossed into his lane and hit him head on, according to messages from other cyclists who were nearby. There was some early info from the medics that he was aware of his surroundings despite being badly messed up, but evidently he had fatal injuries. Please do not circulate his name too widely (I thought back and forth about naming him at all) but his family does know. The report was that a car or truck went by another cyclist with its engine roaring and did not stop; the report is also that they did catch the driver shortly afterwards.

I rode the segment maybe 90 min earlier - that is a little rise (from Curt’s perspective a left hand bend) but very clear line of sight. The driver must have flown over the little hill and not dealt with their (just earlier) left hand bend and crossed over. Straight up horrible.

Let me know if and when a ghost bike will be placed. This is my neck of the woods. I have a bike I'm willing to donate for that purpose. The news reports sound so horrible as to be unbelievable. Apparently the police have been looking for this driver through multiple municipalities based on his erratic driving. It is so effing infuriating.

i know him he used to be a good runner before switching to bikes. Had a hard time sleeping last night after finding out about this.

As I was riding today, I really couldn't get this off my mind. I just kept looking all over the place anticipating some moron to run me over.
I sure feel bad for this man's family and friends. RIP fellow cyclist. Makes me sick to my stomach.
