Baby steps! Be safe, be predictable, wear a helmet.
Hi guys! I just bought my first bike since childhood this morning! I'm looking forward to figuring out how to keep my self upright My hubby and I are going to get me on some trails so I can get going and eventually I'd like to ride to work at CMU (from Morningside) or at least, if the road scares me too much, to the bus stop.
This seems like a great community so far!

Welcome back to two wheels!
Please wear a helmet... and don't hesitate to ask questions. You'll find this board is pretty user friendly
No worries on the helmet! My all black bike screams for pink accessories! Heading to the bike store this afternoon to pick one up!
Good luck!
Think about joining us for Flock of Cycles next month.
My neighbor just started riding to CMU from Morningside at least a few days a week. It seems Morningside may have the highest per capita rate of bike commuters in the city.

Welcome, sshelly! I'm glad you know what a bus is, too. I am a multi-modal rider. Sometimes I lock the bike up near the stop, sometimes I take it with me on the bus bike racks (as in the photo). Varies by day.
The board is all about how you use your bike, and what gets in the way of using it more.
I'm going to be setting up some rides in the coming months for new riders, you should come. I'll put the details up here and on the calendar.
I thought I was the only commuter in Morningside up until the Introductions Thread was started up. Turns out everybody else just gets up earlier
