Hello all,
As a newbie to Pittsburgh, and a newbie to biking, I'd like to be comfortable on the roads... but want to get started on the local trails first. I bought a very cheap/dysfunctional bike rack to get my bike home last year in Boston, but I've realized I need to invest in a secure one, with fool proof installation, something completely reliable over long distances. Any recommendations?

i'm also currently looking for a reliable one that fits over a spoiler. i'm trying not to spend a ton of $, but realize i will have to spend some to get something decent.
someone already recommended me the Saris Bones, any other recommendations?
Trunk mount is likely the only option that isn't a ton of money... They tend to be the least secure as compared to other options, but if you keep an eye on them they work for most people.
Roof racks run $400 and up unless you get a smoking deal on a used one. If you have a trailer hitch, there are a number of options for that route but again, they're fairly expensive.
My parents have used a hitch rack (like http://www.hollywoodracks.com/hitch-racks/sportrider-hitch-rack.htm) on their Honda Civic for the last few years without trouble. It supports the bikes by the wheels so it accepts weird-shaped bikes just fine.
I dunno, I just went to Target and got the $40 bike rack about eight years ago, and it's worked out just great. I wanted one of those nifty roof-mount jobs a year ago, but when I found out that they were hundreds of dollars, I went home and hugged my crappy (but super functional) Target rack. I'm cheap, I guess.
@Coley My experience is that some trunk racks will fit over spoilers but in general they don't. You can check both Thule and Yakima fit guides on line.
The Bones will fit over anything. From a sales standpoint it was a real dream to have in stock. I highly recommend them.
