North Side to Sewickley

From What I can see, I can take California Ave. from Brighton Rd. through Belleview, Avalon, and Ben Avon. Turn Left onto Pennsylvania from Center Ave. in Emsworth and then right onto Ohio River Blvd. Follow Ohio River Blvd to Beaver St. and follow that to Sewickley. Is there any viable way to avoid any more of Ohio River Blvd. and the entities of, W. Carson St., Railroad rights of way, and McKees Rocks Bridge. on skinny road tires without any major hills or backtracing?

Center Ave is closed at camp horne until 2018.  Not sure if you cross over that on this route and what the closure looks like.

So I would have to follow Ohio River Blvd for even longer?

I don't know.  maybe someone else here does? When you look at routes on google maps make sure that the "traffic" overlay is turned on.  It has information about constructions/road closures/etc.  That's how I found that one.  THey've been working on Camp Horne Road for years.

Yeah, the bridge out on Church St in Emsworth stinks, makes you have to detour to ORB/65. I prefer just riding a few blocks on the sidewalk or walking it. I'm not a fan of riding on ORB/65 and just won't do it. I would just take River trail to McClure to Benton to California Ave / Lincoln Ave /Church St to Perrysville Ave to hiland Ave and do sidewalks for a couple blocks on ORB/65 to North Ave to Center to Roosevelt to Mt Nebo Rd / Blackburn Rd down in to Sewickly.

Isn't Mt Nebo Rd. a big HILL? @Stu, Do you have any insight?

Alternatively, you could go via West End Bridge, to Steuben St to chartiers Ave to Windgap Ave across the windgap bridge to mckees Rocks, on to chartiers ave and then island ave to neville Rd on to neville island to Grand to Neville Island Bridge to Coreopolis, continue up rt 51 / 4th ave to sewickley Bridge. Here's a round trip route I did, with bridge detour, shows both ways. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/22886267

As a side note, check out my Washington Blvd. videos. Since I can handle this at 2:30 PM on a Friday, do you think Ohio River Blvd. from Emsworth to Hayesville will be ok as well? https://youtu.be/Sj9qa75zVKM?t=320 https://youtu.be/mUDV4SvCQd0?t=108 P.S. Are there any other traffic lights on Ohio River Blvd. in Emsworth south (East) of Camp Horne Rd.

No. Do not ride 65 between Emsworth and Sewickley. I wouldn't even ride the shoulder. Yes, Roosevelt is an enormous hill. Sewickley is one of the few entire towns that you can only get to by automobile, unless adding enormous miles, climbing, or both. The one time in my life I was in Sewickley on a bicycle, I approached it from the east, actually north from east. Documented here.

Is Allegheny River Blvd. better? Maybe I will try a ride from Oakland to Oakmont via O'Hara St., Bigelow Blvd., Bayard St., Neville St. Centre Ave., Negley Run Blvd., Washington Blvd., Allegheny River Blvd. Also, would McKnight Rd. be good practice for busy roads?
