Is the Panhandle Trail passable from its junction with the Montour Trail to the WV line?
Thanks for any help.

Was anyone aware of plans to extend the Panhandle Trail into Carnegie? Great news! (thought I posted this yesterday...sorry if it double posts but I don't see it!!)
https://www.post-gazette.com/news/transportation/2020/10/26/Port-Authority-Carnegie-West-Busway-parking-garage-Panhandle-Trail/stories/202010200174
The second phase of work, which would proceed after the borough converts abandoned railroad tracks into an extension of the Panhandle Trail, would add a second entrance from West Main Street and include 80 bike rack spaces.
Ms. Egler said the existing parking lot has “really high demand” now. The authority expects that adding spaces in the garage will increase busway ridership and the borough thinks more visitors will use the facility to visit the borough’s business district and to take advantage of access to the trail when it is finished.

That's just OK news of the Panhandle trail extended a couple miles ending in the middle of nowhere in Carnegie, but it would be great news if they could extend the trail a little further into Pittsburgh to hit another trail,(3 rivers heritage trail). The same could be said of the North shore trail that ends in the middle of nowhere. If that trail could be extended past Alcosan to hit Sewickley/Coraopolis to get on the Montour trail that would great!!

Let's get from downtown Carnegie to the Panhandle Trail first. Getting from Carnegie towards Pittsburgh will have to be a totally different project, totally different players, such as Port Authority, to run something along the West Busway, but even then we're only getting down to the Berry Street Tunnel.
One thing at a time. I'd fight more to get a direct, rideable path across the main street there via an overhead structure. That should be on anyone's short list.

cycleguy- The trail would be extended to the terminus of the West Busway, which is much better than Walkers Mill. It's just one more piece to the overall puzzle. Hopefully it would provide a boost to some of the businesses along that stretch of W Main, and plus you're only a few blocks from "downtown" Carnegie anyways. I've walked that plenty of times from the Busway station and it's taken 5 minutes. Bus+Bike will provide a car-free connection between downtown Pittsburgh and the fringes of Weirton WV
Stu- The plan is to extend to Bell Station for now. Most seem to believe the route will not be along the West Busway from there, but rather along Chartiers Creek through Thornburg. The latest master bike plan from the city shows it following Creek Road into McKees Rocks. That still doesn't solve the downtown connection, but when you're from this side of town, any new biking infrastructure is considered a big win.
