PARK(ing) day 2016 ride - Friday, September 16

Hi all, it's time once again for the annual PARK(ing) day ride - next Friday, Sept. 16. If you're not familiar with PARK(ing) day, it is "an annual, one-day, international event in which artists, designers, activists and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces." - which are basically small parks. Riding to the spots is the best way to see them all, and it has become something of an annual tradition. This will be a slow-paced, fun ride - all riders are welcome and we will all stay together. https://www.facebook.com/ParkingDayPGH For this year, I propose we start downtown at 10am and work our way out to the neighborhoods, since the bulk of the spots seem to be downtown and we didn't have enough time to get to them all last year. I'll let you know when I have the route - I've talked to the organizers and they said they might be able to get me the list a bit early. Hope to see you all there!

Ok, let's meet in Market Square at 10am, ride leaves at 10:15. Bike Pittsburgh asked if we could join their lunch loop which is a 30 minute ride from Market Square at noon.  I think that's a bit late to get started, so let's plan to head over to the South Side first (we'll take a vote on whether to ride and/or incline up to Mt. Washington), head back downtown for noon, then up through the Strip -> Lawrenceville -> Allegheny Cemetery -> Garfield -> Bloomfield -> Oakland (which will hopefully give the architecture students time to get their space built, if it's anything like last year it was an elaborate production and we got there way too early to see it). Sound good?  If you have any questions you can ask here, I've turned on email notifications so I should see them.

It was a beautiful day for a ride!  We made it to all of the spots except for one - and it wasn't the one on Mt. Washington either.  That was the first time I'd ever written up that hill and I have to say it wasn't as bad as I expected (via Arlington and McArdle), only to find the spot that was supposed to be there was missing (which was an unfortunately commmon problem).  Then we hit the South Side (the Springboard spot with the disco ball was one of my favorites), went back downtown for the lunch loop, then worked our way up the hill, ending in Oakland (followed by some refreshments at my house).  Hope to do it again next year. I didn't take too many photos, but..  https://goo.gl/photos/CDGPzkignAPVxqhe7
