That is awesome. I forwarded it to some friends who might be interested. I have off that day, so might be able to chip in some time.
Parking Day Pittsburgh in One Month!
Parking Day when we convert parking spaces into parks is just one month away. There are 15 different organizations in Pittsburgh working on their own spots.
Any architects, designers, or other creative types who would like to help create a fantastic space for Bike Pittsburgh? Possibilities are near endless.

From PARK(ing) Day Pittsburgh:
PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, international event in which artists, designers, activists and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces.
This is your opportunity to get Pittsburghers thinking about how important public spaces are and how parks improve our communities. These park installations aim to transform urban environments designed for vehicle use into a communal space for public use. They also provide a chance to generate more awareness about your organization by showcasing your mission, activities and values.
PARK(ing) spaces come in all sizes and styles. It could be an art installation, interactive demonstration, place to sit, or showcase for urban farming and gardening. A park bench, tree and grass works too! There are countless of imaginative ways to transform a metered parking space.
Let's make it happen. Sod is a mess but do-able if we can get it. Picnics, croquet, foosball, reading, chess, gardens, anything.
A friday? Maybe I'll come down and do some work from bike-pgh park that day.
Betcha a dahntahn putting green would be a hit.
Not to be all stereotypical n'at, but I bet there's a lot of suit-and-tie-fighters who'd get a kick out of playing a 3-hole mini golf course on their way back from lunch.
Dan - genius.
I'm going to need help before the day of. Dan, want to help put together the putting green? It does sound perfect.
Maybe we could put up a couple of bike corrals in front of businesses that have a lot of heavy bike traffic. OTB? Other ideas?
If anyone wants to work on this, send me a message. Lots of coordination and lots of imagination will be required between now and then.
Didn't Ravenstahl or a councilperson donate their parking space by the City-County Building for this last year?
When I hear Parking Day I think of it as a Canadian holiday, like Boxing Day.
lolly- might want to check out the park(ing) day pittsburgh blog and get listed with them as well:

I know Allison Park Elementary did a spot last year. Maybe you check with some other schools about getting involved.
from our parking day last year... we sold hotdogs and lemonade!
........ join us for more!
that is so cool
i should note that our 'parking' space is not really a parking space though everyone uses it. and its kiiiinda hard to set up something there because of the intersection.... so we also incorporate traffic cones (outside of the picture)
