Participatory Sensing in Public Spaces
Hi, I'm a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon, running a study on Participatory Sensing in Public Spaces: Exploring Sensor Placement and Visualization Techniques.
This study explores how different communities throughout Pittsburgh would approach the measurement, collection and sharing of environemtnal data in public spaces. The study consists of 3 parts:
1. Preliminary Interview (less than 1 hour, $10 compensation)
Participants will be asked about their daily routines and evaluate several design approaches for visualizing and collecting environmental data.
2. Mock Deployment (1 week, $15 compensation)
Participants will be given enclosures (no larger than a cellphone) that represent physical sensor designs. Participants will carry these designs with them during the course of 1 week, placing and photographing them in public locations where they might want to collect envrionmental data.
3. Final Interview (less than 1 hour, $10)
Participants will comment on the locations they selected, and reevaluate the sensor design and visualization.
Participants will be compensated $35 for completing the study. Participants should have access to a digital camera.
If you are interested in participating in the study or have any questions regarding the project, please contact Stacey Kuznetsov (stace@cs.cmu.edu) or Eric Paulos (paulos@cs.cmu.edu).
i have a question, what the hell does this mean??:
Participatory Sensing in Public Spaces: Exploring Sensor Placement and Visualization Techniques.
From what I can tell, Stacey wants to keep track of the number of pigeons in Oakland, but doesn't know where to put the sensors. So she's paying someone $35 to place them for her.
I don't feel bad generalizing like this, since she probably won't read this anyway, given she left contact information in the original post.
Isn't she requesting that the pigeons contact her?
Yinz sassin' her?
To be fair, this the the type of abstract thinking that changes the design and implementation of complete streets .
I didn't think the original post was spam, but if she had to do it all over again, I think she'd have done herself a favor to get some clearance from Bike-PGH first.
