Been in the works for a while. This is big news for BikePGH.

Makes sense to me. Can't image this is going to be a bad thing for anyone involved.

Pedal Pittsburgh was my favorite event last year, it's a great way to start off the riding season

If everyone in town that regularly used a bike put aside the $30 per year for a BikePGH membership, meetings with the city would be just as you describe.

Does becoming mainstream mean instead of fighting the battle you have won the battle.

@mr marvelous YES, i will lament the day though - liek growing out of shape because you've stopped participating in 5k fund raisers after we've eradicated all cancers and such.

I was just thinking about the year ahead, can I put in my official request now for a Tweed ride on the Saturday before Pdl Pgh! I would like to round out that weekend.

I'd spell out "pedal". (And yes, it's "pedal" not "peddle" which means "sell".)

But "Pedal-Pgh" would be a nice accompaniment for "Bike-Pgh" IMHO.

I would like to sign up to volunteer at the highland park rest stop, if in fact the route stays the same

Edmonds, we've been slackers about tweed, but that does seem a good time. I'll see what we can do!

@Stef, you can volunteer at Highland park, but you must bring your own water - at least that was the rule last year for the first two hours.

yeah, or bring several gallons. It was pretty lame to tell people we had no water, but I guess the same thing had happened the year before, I think someone said.

Yes I remember this because I had no water to drink and was displeased. No, I was pissed.. And thirsty

The one thing that I would like to see improved would be more signs I got lost a few times and I came across groups of people every so many miles who lost track of the arrows.

From what I was told about the water was that the city had all the water sources locked up and Pedal Pittsburgh had no access.

Don't worry folks, we've had lots and discussions on the Board of Directors level of how to make this event better than it has ever been. At the staff level, Seth is working on this full bore, and is going to kill it. I will go so far as to personally guarantee that under his watchful eye there will be ample water and the course will be well marked.

There will be ways for people to express what they do and don't like about the way previous events ran, with suggestions on how to think outside of the box and make it the best it can be. There is a new sheriff in town, Pedal Pittsburgh is going to rule.

@all, I didn’t mean to be snarky about the water comment. I know this is a big event with lots of moving pieces and is run primarily with volunteers. I actually think they do a great job of running this every year & it is something I look forward to.

@ Marko I don't think people are complaining it has been posted how P.P. is on of the favorite events of the year, but I take it as suggestions on how to make it better. Coming up with ways to make a great event even better is how I take it. And yes they do a fantastic job with the whole P.P. set up.

I was complaining.. Just about the water. That could have been very dangerous. But other than that, it is always fun. I have to remember to suggest to give out Tshirts at the end of the ride for those of us who ride to the start and have no place to store an extra tshirt during the ride.

As the Events Coordinator I'll be organizing BikeFest and Pedal Pittsburgh. BikePGH just purchased Pedal Pgh and we're hoping to make it a car-free ride in 2012. That's right, we want to ride the streets of the city without cars. But, that'll take a big effort.

When reading the Bike-PGH messages, my eyes are usually too filmed with tears of joy to make out details.

Ha ha. The trouble with the newsletter is that it's normal a recap of the stuff that I've already read on the blog, Facebook, here or Twitter so I normally skim it.

We aim to make the event more user friendly, first by reducing the number of routes to choose from, and secondly, by making the course as car-free as possible.

The 5 boros ride in NYC is amazing partly because the streets are closed to vehicular traffic. That would be great to have that done here. They close streets for the marathon, right? Why not for bikes, Pittsburgh!?

Also if the streets are closed to traffic I may be able to participate...

Stef, I'd love to see you-and-a-half out there on a bike, showing every other woman with a future family in mind that it can be done.
