I've always thought they were interesting. They are everywhere in Pittsburgh. I look forward to to seeing the photo essay. I used to be able to see one out my window but it was covered by newer construction.

Pittsburgh Palimpsests Project (Ghost Signs)
I thought this might peak the interest of some cyclists. Perhaps an idea for a BikeFest Ride???

Pittsburgh Palimpsests is a photographic essay documenting early- to mid-20th century advertising signage painted (Ghost Signs) on exterior walls throughout the Pittsburgh region.

Reviving this thread, now that the weather is a little better and we can get more eyes out there.
Here are two I know about on my path into town. This first one is Heil American Motors, a dealer of Ramblers, Javelins, Gremlins and such. In better light, with a better camera, you can still make out the red-white-blue logo to the right of the picture. It is now Boyle Carpet, just off Perry Hwy near the park & ride.
The second one is just inside the city, at Perrysville and Vinceton. Now a convenience store, it used to be a Kuhn's, as shown on the back of the building.
