Whatever became of the thread a long time ago that was trying to put together a map for "bike friendly households?" I think people were suggesting making a list of places they could find a repair kit/ water /help. Just wondered, because if there is such a list, I'm not on it.

A few more: one at Heth's Playground @Heth's Ave & Hampton St. in Morningside.

At least 3 in Highland Park on Reservoir Drive: one to the left of the gates headed into the park from Highland Ave, one to the right of the PWSA filtration plant, one at the big wooden playground (there's also a clean portajohn at this location).

@Noah - Agreed, under these conditions: NOT after it rains, NOT down-river from sewage treatment facilities, NOT down-river from coal-fired electric generation plants, And NOT in areas of Marcellus Shale fracking.

Otherwise, you're good to go!

The biggest problem with drinking river water is that I have NEVER seen a fish climb out to use a porta-potty.

Stick to processed water, like nature intended.

There's a fourth water fountain at the Highland Park Tennis Courts. I added it. Great map!

Hey, I just noticed that one of my favorite water fountains isn't on the map, at the western corner of Schenley Drive and Frew Street, by the Columbus statue by Phipps.

Have the fountains been turned on yet this year? Last I tried, the one at the point was off.

Also there are places in cemetaries where people can get water for flowers. I saw one in Allegheny cemetery near Penn.

as of sunday morning, the fountains at the east end of the jail trail and at the point were off.

Fountains are to be turned on this week, supposedly yesterday.

I never knew about the one by the Columbus status and I go past there every day!

I would just go into an office building, pretend you're a messenger, hit up the water cooler, candy dish and maybe ask out a receptionist.

I often fill a water container at fast food places with fill your own pop machines- usually there is a samll water tab next to one of the flavors, plus you can get ice.

Sinks work also.

If you count the golf course and next to Columbus, I think there are 5 fountains in Schenley.

I have filled my bottle at the Squirrel Hill and Oakland Rita's--they're good because you don't have to go inside, just go up to the window.

I'm mainly looking for open/public places because I'll have groups of 10+ riders and it's just easier to go to a fountain than bother a business. Glad to hear Rita's is friendly for bikers though.

I would be willing to allow scheduled and/ or known groups of cyclists to fill up on my hose spigot outside.

Anywhere that allows you to fill your water bottle straight from their tap. Preferably Yuengling.

Interesting idea about bike-friendly residences. Maybe with a window-sticker to help you spot them in time of need.
