Places you've crashed

I don't make it a habit to lay the bike down, but I ate it yesterday in a pretty dramatic fashion at the corner of Clemente Bridge and Ft. Duquesne Blvd. Clemente was closed w/ sawhorses, due to the Bucs game. I was on that block section that indicates the pedestrian walkway to go around the sawhorse to access the bike lane when I got dumped. Did not notice, was not as vigilant, the concrete is slightly raised where it meets the pavement/ped section. Crashed right in front of a motorcycle officer. Be aware, if you ride there. Normally, I'd have just gone straight and not hit that transition w/ the ped walkway.

Places I've bit it: (HARD and FAST, nearly broke my ulna) Wet railroad tracks (the un-used ones on River Ave near the Heinz plant.) SRSLY, railroad tracks are NOT your friend! Slow crashes: The crumbling mosaic at Allegheny Landing, caught the edge of the uneven disintegrating surface about a month ago. The gates on the GAP near Sandcastle (I just lost my balance at a really slow speed) and then I somehow got my ankle wedged between the crank and the frame... I still have a mark after a year) Here's video of it you want a giggle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVEWKa_MOB4

Last Friday on 993 / E Brinton coming into Trafford from the south, by the middle school. Solo endo after hitting debris washed into the road after last week's storms. Also came damned near another solo fall near Sheraden/Corliss when the surface suddenly went from smooth to lunar on the descent down Middletown Rd approaching Chartiers Ave.

Riding for a decade w clueless pedals, I had a brain fart a few years ago riding down Bayard and trying to stop at Craig (gas station) and thinking, "how the hell do I get my feet out of the pedals?" .ANd fell over. sideways. Oh, and I have the type of shimano clips that come out pretty much any direction. Can't get lamer than that.

Wiped out on some wet leaves one time, Island Ave in McKees Rocks, between the bridge and Chartiers. It had not rained in over 24 hours, but this spot was shady so had not dried out much. Combination of loose sand, leaves, and a car that made me move right farther than I would do now. Lane control is your friend.

Crashed once on some wet RR tracks in the Strip District due to a slow leak rear tire I didn't know about and caught a rim. I don't wear a helmet, so I suspect I ride a little differently without some false sense of security. Been riding Pittsburgh for decades and really no problems. Hope I am not jinxing myself, but if I do go no one would give a crap anyway, so who cares. Enjoy!

One of the more spectacular ones was on Negley Hill. Going down, probably 30 mph, easy, light drizzle, concrete, I got out of the clean wheel tracks and into the middle of the lane where motor vehicles drop their various fluids. Went down so fast, the blink of an eye. Low-sided, fortunately. Shaved the skin off of my left calf the size of an eggplant. It was twilight, and my friend at the bottom said the sparks coming off the left pedal were rather spectacular. Friends dog expressed sincere interest in the juicy wound. I have had a lot of road rash.

Last year I crashed while going downhill on the closed section of Kearns ave, in the West End. This road is closed for a reason, folks.
